A Day Out on Sherkin Island
Sherkin Island is a small island just off the coast of Ireland. It’s reached by a ten minute ferry ride from the village of Baltimore in West Cork and on a sunny day there’s hardly a better place to be! The Sherkin Island Abbey
Known locally as “The Abbey”, this ruin was a Franciscan friary that operated from the 1400s to 1796 when the last friar died. In the background you can see the Baltimore Beacon.
Respite from the Sun
A blazing hot sun drove one visitor to Sherkin Island to find shelter in the shade of the abandoned friary on the island.
