Youghal’s Charming Beach Huts

I had no idea these beach huts were in Youghal until about a week ago, but I just love the colour and shape of each one.

The Watchtower and Seaside Blooms

The lifeguard tower at the end of the main section of the beach at Youghal. The beach does continue on, but the sand was green with algae and it was obvious it’s not used by humans much.

I love the matching colours in this photo. I spent a good few minutes kneeling in damp sand and dirt trying to get this photo.

Lifebuoy on Duty

It’s reassuring to see lifebuoys at the beach, especially when the sea is rough. Unfortunately, not every person in distress in the water can be saved, as has happened at this beach in Youghal in the past.

An empty street in Seaside

This is something you won’t see often in The Truman Show, it’s an empty street.

It’s not the same road as the one with the traffic jam in the movie, but it’s similar. It’s surreal walking around the town of Seaside in Florida after seeing The Truman Show.

A Florida Dragonfly

Behind the town of Seaside in Florida lies a lake which no doubt contributes to the humidity during the day there.

Early one morning I photographed this dragonfly resting on the fence on a small pier on the lake. The air was still cool, so the dragonfly was probably still sluggish until the day warmed up.

Capturing Seaside’s Sunrise Splendor

In Seaside, Florida, a photowalk in September is best enjoyed in the early morning to avoid the oppressive humidity and heat that sets in later in the day. But the silver lining is that this early start allows us to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico, casting a golden glow on the pristine white sandy beach nearby.

The Truman House

A sign outside a home in Seaside, Florida, tells the curious passer-by, “The Truman House”. It was used as the home where Truman Burbank lived in the film, The Truman Show.

The house itself sits at 31 Natchez Street in Seaside. I didn’t see anyone about, but then again I walked past at around 8am in the morning before the oppressive heat of the day got too bad.

A Metal Flag with Heart

The Stars & Stripes made from corrugated metal outside someone’s house in Seaside Florida. I guess it was a child’s project, especially with the heart attached to it.

It was so rusted then, I doubt it’s still there now, 13 years later!

Sunset at Seaside

It was the end of another sweltering day at Seaside, Florida. The sun was setting in a blaze of glory. The sky was on fire with dramatic rays of orange and pink, and the clouds were playing their part perfectly.

I spotted a swimmer going into the water, and she made for a nice silhouette on a fiery evening.

Braving Warm Waters at Seaside

Seaside, the town where The Truman Show was filmed is in Florida. Automattic held a Grand Meetup there in 2010. It was so warm and humid during the day that I rarely went out.

We went for a photowalk at 7:30am one morning before the heat got unbearable. By the time we finished an hour later it was just getting too uncomfortable.

Yellow and Fenced In

A flower or weed? A weed is only a flower in the wrong place, or so I’ve heard. This was taken at Seaside in Florida during the Automattic meetup there in 2010. Beautiful beach there, horrible humidity in September!

This will probably be my last post of the year here so happy new year and I hope 2012 is a great one for you!
