Many years ago in August 2003 I was waiting for the L in Chicago to bring me to work.

Kimball

Kimball, a station on the L in Chicago. This was a station I used every day when I lived in Chicago a few years ago. I had to ride the brown line one more time when I visited the city in 2005.

I had hoped to work on some shots of today’s trip to Kinsale and Garrettstown but time was against me. Wandered one of the backstreets of the town and got some shots of the wonderful buildings there.

Under the L

Under the L

The L is the elevated train system in Chicago and many films have been filmed underneath it’s tracks, including some scenes in Batman, The Dark Knight. Here’s the L under Kimball on the brown line. I worked close by a few years ago!

Railway Tunnel

Railway Tunnel

A tunnel under the railway line between Cork and Mallow that eventually ends up in “the big smoke”, Dublin (Only ever heard Dublin people refer to Dublin by that name..)

I believe the road heads to Whitechurch where we’re heading tomorrow for a meal with some Polish friends. There are great winding roads off the main Cork-Mallow dual carriageway. Lovely scenery and some unusual sights. Must rummage through some of those shots and dig out the good ones.

There’s even a Wikipedia entry for Big Smoke! Apparently several cities are known by that name: Belfast, London, Melbourne, Toronto and Vancouver. Interesting.

Kent Train Station

Kent Train Station in Cork is familiar to many travellers. It was built in the 1800s, and the Wikipedia article on it has some interesting background information.
