MOSTLY FALSE REPORTS

A few days ago, I received my copy of MOSTLY FALSE REPORTS. It’s a book I funded through Kickstarter by Stephen Leslie.

It’s a book of street photography, but if that genre doesn’t interest you, you’ll probably still be interested in this book. Stephen has included a story alongside each photo. They’re inspired by the accompanying photo, and some are hilarious. I love the ones about the hedge animals. You’ll find a few more of his photos on this page. Stephen is on Instagram too.

The question prompted by the photo above is one I think about a lot. “Do people mind you taking their photos?”

The Kickstarter campaign is over but, Stephen has a few extra copies and I can recommend buying a copy for the photographer in your life, or indulge in a copy for yourself.

While you’re here, have a look at Stephen’s website for several galleries full of photos, including a few from the book.

Cobbles, Light and Shadow

I visited the Igreja Paroquial da Graça (Church of Our Lady of Grace) in Lisbon early one morning. There’s a beautiful view of the city, but if you look behind and around you’ll find these lovely cobbles. In the early morning, the houses opposite cast a shadow on the street and on the wall of the church, and I loved it.

A VW bus at the Arc de Triomphe

We had just come out of the metro with our suitcases from the airport when I saw this VW bus, or as I’ve just found out, a Volkswagen Type 2, pulled over to the side of the road on the busy roundabout at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

It was a lovely August day and this vintage vehicle was a perfect foreground to the magnificent monument in the background.

The man in the hat looking out the sunroof had a nice view of everything. I’m glad they stopped there. 🙂

Lisbon Tram 28

A tram on the world-famous route 28 in Lisbon rumbled past me as I walked up Rua da Graça. Many of the streets are very narrow, and the footpath is too, meaning the tram gets quite close as you walk along.

Three Friends

Three friends sit on the steps next to the Tagus in Lisbon, Portugal.

I was curious and looked up the area on Google Maps. I think I came across the best Google Street View image nearby! I wonder if that dog owner knows his dog is on Google Maps?

Coloured Light in Water

It started raining while we were visiting LXFactory in Lisbon. It was lashing down and people hurried to get to shelter. Where one person sees a hindrance, another might see an opportunity, so I still had my camera out! I held it under my coat when necessary, but I got a few shots I’m happy with, including this one.

We were walking to shelter at the end of the street, to wait for our taxi, when I saw a puddle that was alive with colour! Of course, I had to take a photo. 🙂

Waiting for a passenger

A rickshaw tuktuk driver waits for his next passenger and looks at his phone to pass the time. It’s a sunny day in Malaga, and he’s taking advantage of a momentary lull in business to catch up on social media.

The chihuahua model

I spotted a woman walking past with her two dogs. Moments before, the chihuahua was barking his head off, but he quietened down when he saw me. An obvious poser, and he just loves the camera!

Walking by the stall

Late one evening in Valencia I went walking with my son and, of course, I took my camera with me. He loved walking around the city. It was warm, and full of people living their lives. I noticed a man walking by himself near this stall, but he wasn’t much more than a silhouette in the darkness.

Elevador da Bica from another Tram

One of the trams of the Elevador da Bica photographed by me as I went past in another tram along Largo Calhariz. A famous sight in Lisbon, and I was lucky to catch this photo as we trundled along.
