A man and the R&H Hall

As we were photographing the R&H Hall building the other morning, Henry spotted a boat, the Simon Princess, sailing towards us. I thought the boat might pull in on the other side of the river, but no, it stopped just a few metres away.

As it passed slowly, I caught a nice photo of one of the crew looking out, with the R&H Hall building providing a nice background. A photo that will be impossible to replicate in 6 months time.

The Lights Have Stars

A car drove towards me a few nights ago while I was playing around with an 8 star filter on my camera. Most of the time it’s totally overdone, but I liked how this came, especially as the headlights are reflected in the bus shelter.

The Kennedy Quay Skyline

Kennedy Quay this morning as the sun rose, with R&H Hall in the centre of the image, as this skyline will disappear in the next few months.

Note: the sky has been replaced. It was a very dull, overcast day. Hopefully, this is more pleasing to the eye. The old R&H Hall building has not been replaced, yet.

R&H Hall in Cork City

The R&H Hall building looms over Kennedy Quay as seen from Michael Collins Bridge today. It’s going to be demolished this year, so if you want to record “what once was” on the site, get down there soonest!

This Irish Examiner article talks about the demolition, and includes this picture of what will replace it.

Ian Bailey and The West Cork Way

Ian Bailey, the man accused of murdering a French woman, Sophie Toscan du Plantier, died today. Here he is in 2019, when he was selling his book, “The West Cork Way”, at a market in Skibereen.

The Fiery Red Tree

Atop a high stone tower in Clogheenmilcon Sanctuary Walk, near Blarney, is a sculpture of a tree. It was created by sculptor, Don Cronin and is impossible to miss if you’re walking in the sanctuary.

This was taken last night when temperatures had dropped to -4.5ºC. I didn’t stay out very long, but braver souls from Blarney Photography Club did!

Let it snow in Arizona

Many years ago, on a cold January day in Arizona we came across a small yard where metal works were being sold. One of those was an unusual metal robot with a red and white hat on it’s head, saying “LET IT SNOW”.

It didn’t snow, but it was cold at night!
