Some of the boats in Ballycotton a few weeks ago when Blarney Photography Club visited. A trawler with the name Emma Lou was in the foreground, but also visible were smaller boats, and the local search and rescue boat that had just arrived.

The Crow and the Swallow

A crow stands on top of a pole as a swallow flies past him. Those swallows are really hard to photograph, so I zoomed in on the top of the pole and just watched the pole, without looking through the camera. When I saw a swallow fly close, I hit the shutter button hoping burst mode would take help me catch it in flight!

Chatting to the bus driver

Horse is a picky eater

A horse in a field turned his head as if in disgust at eating something unpleasant

Down by Garrettstown Beach in Co Cork I spotted a horse in a field. He was by himself and I went over to say hi, and take his photo.

He’s obviously had enough of people taking his photo, or maybe he ate something unpleasant, to judge by the look on his face. 🙂

Wind Blown Clouds

Wind blows the clouds over a silhouetted house on a hill in a black and white photo.

Looking up from the rocks in Ballycotton I spotted this house and magnificent clouds overhead. The wind was blowing hard up there high in the sky and the clouds moved visibly as I watched.

It didn’t take me long to realise I needed to photograph it!

Construction Cranes on Horgan’s Quay

Construction Cranes were on site among the new buildings of Horgan's Quay in Cork. The River Lee is flowing in the foreground, crossed by Brian Boru Bridge nearby.

Back in 2019, and Horgan’s Quay was in the middle of development. Cranes were overhead, and the whole place was a building site.

The boats of Ballycotton

Boats in Ballycotton Harbour at sunset. The lifeguard vessel can be seen in the middle background, and a trawler is tied to the pier right in front of me, with other smaller boats further back.

During another trip with Blarney Photography Club to Ballycotton we were lucky to have a very calm evening. A light breeze disturbed the water, and there were clouds in the sky to make for an interesting sunset.

Shadows and Sun

The sun shines on the headland opposite Dingle in Co Kerry. Clouds cast a shadow over the fields on a glorious sunny day. The water of Dingle Bay is visible in the foreground.

We were walking out towards Hussey’s Folly outside Dingle when I looked across Dingle Harbour and saw the sunlight travel across the opposite headland as clouds moved away.

I love seeing light and shadow on a landscape so I grabbed a few quick shots.
