Los Jameos del Agua
This striking blue pool is part of Los Jameos del Agua built into the ground of Lanzarote using the same lava tunnel La Cueva de los Verdes that was formed by the eruption of La Corona Vulcano. Of course, César Manrique was responsible for this beautiful design.
This pool is called, “Jameo Grande”. There’s also an internal pool inside the tunnel that’s home “to over a dozen endemic species of great scientific interest” according to this site.

An Garda
A member of An Garda Síochána directed traffic in Blarney last night when Santa visited and the lights were turned on in the village.
This is a long exposure zoomed shot, of about one second duration with the flash firing at the end of the exposure.
To replicate:
- Make sure you set your flash to “second curtain”. Use Google to find out how on your brand of flash. Normally the flash will fire at the start of an exposure.
- Have the lens at it’s widest zoom.
- Set the camera to one second exposure in shutter priority mode (Tv on Canon cameras, S on others) or use manual mode with an aperture as wide as possible.
- Line up your subject, hit the shutter button and slowly zoom in.
If you’ve timed it right the flash will fire when you’re zoomed in right. They’ll be lit by the flash and any background lights will appear as streaks going towards them. It’s hard to get right and not overexpose your subject so keep practising!

Happy Playing Music
A man busking in Emmett Place, Cork a few weeks ago. I forgot to ask his name and he apologised for his playing as he was learning a new song so he was likely going to be strumming the same chords over and over again.
This was shot when I was out with Blarney Photography Club and it was shown at the next meeting. Another photo of him was shown too from a lower angle and closer which I think is better than this one, but this is the one I have so it’s all I’ll post!
Anyway, is it street photography if your subject is aware of you and looking straight at the camera? Before you answer, watch Bruce Gilden in action:

Smile
The beautiful smiling woman in the background is on a poster covering one of the front windows of the old Moderne premises on St Patrick’s Street, Cork.
While out with Blarney Photography Club we stopped to make some photos of this striking yellow background with passers by in front. There were five of us there so we were hardly inconspicuous but people kindly ignored us! 🙂

Still Pushing Buggies
A new book featuring pictures of Cork was published recently, Cork in the 1960s. The front cover is a photo of two women pushing a buggy and a pram on St. Patrick’s Street.
I was on that street today and when I saw the book in the window of Waterstones I had to make this photo when I saw the opportunity.
It was nice to get out with Blarney Photography Club today on a photo walk!

In a world of their own
This couple were engrossed in conversation walking across the busy junction of Washington Street and The Grand Parade without waiting for the lights. A moment later the man looked towards traffic and put his hand out to stop a car that was heading towards them!
Unbelievable.
