December Fireworks

December Fireworks

Fireworks illuminate the park beside Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Blackrock tonight. The fireworks were part of the “Magic Nights By The Lee – A Winter Solstice” series of events but unfortunately due to Covid 19 they didn’t tell anyone where the fireworks would be launched from as reported by The Echo earlier today,

For public health reasons, viewing sites will not be provided at launch locations. However, the wider public is invited to enjoy the display from a safe, socially distanced vantage point and can tune in to Red FM for the accompanying audio.

Local residents were informed and a small crowd gathered to watch. It was a superb show, with a huge variety of colours and explosions. Made for a hectic ten minutes while I pressed the shutter button again and again hoping for good shots!

The Skeleton of the Blackrock Terrace

The Blackrock end of Páirc Uí Chaoimh lies exposed as the stadium has been stripped bare in redevelopment of the area.

This is a panorama stitched together by Affinity Photo with final black and white development done in Lightroom. AP did a great job of stitching the images together and I put the healing brush to good use getting rid of distracting foreground walls.

The demolition of Pairc Ui Chaoimh

Parts of Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Blackrock are being demolished as part of the somewhat controversial redevelopment of the area. This Examiner article has some photos and a video of the stadium before demolition:

Empty Seats in Pairc Ui Chaoimh

One evening while walking near Pairc Ui Chaoimh we noticed the gate at the Blackrock end open so wandered in for a quick look around. I hadn’t been in there in years but it was nice to look around and take a few shots. Must have been a GAA meeting or something that evening …

Like the new theme? It’s Oenology!

Big Wheel in the Showgrounds

Big Wheel in the Showgrounds

The big wheel, as seen from The Atlantic Pond outside Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork.

Sort of fitting that I post a photo of a fairground ride on the day that Michael Jackson is laid to rest.

BTW – there are still places on the Cork photowalk on the 18th. It’s less than 2 weeks now! Anyone have any suggestions about where to go afterwards? Old Oak perhaps? Would they be serving any sort of food around 4pm? It’ll be hard to find a restaurant that could fit up to 50 of us and we’d be stuck sitting down at a table, not mingling and chatting.
I know, we pop into Burger King first eh? 🙂
