Fast Food, Slow Shutter
The Burger King sign on St Patrick Street shines while Christmas lights move about the frame. A touch of ICM on a cold December evening.
Cornmarket’s Christmas Tree Through Steel
You know that weird liminal period between Christmas and whenever someone finally bothers to take the decorations down? This is it, captured in one slightly surreal shot on Cornmarket Street. That tree was still up on January 2nd, but I expect it’ll be gone in a day or two now. The light effect on the…
When the City Blurs By
Panning photos is a nice way to burn through some photos and sometimes a photo or two will look half decent. It’s very hit-and-miss. You have to start panning your camera with the car and then hit the shutter while panning, hoping that you’re staying on your subject. A fun little exercise. 🙂 These images…
The Steel Wool Spirals
Spirals of sparks as steel wool burns in a long exposure of about 20 seconds.
Spinning Light on Grand Parade
The Big Wheel or Ferris wheel, is back in the Grand Parade in Cork, but these photos are from December 2017! You’d hardly know, except for the posters on the buildings behind. This was before Ukraine was attacked by Russia and there is now a flag of Ukraine with the text, “We’re with you Ukraine”…
Chasing Light Trails on South Mall
You’re not waiting for a bus and suddenly four busses come along! We had fun with some long exposure photography on. Thursday night.
Green Light Go
One more from last week. This time, the long exposure shot is of a bus heading to Parnell Place in Cork. The traffic light had just turned green, so the bus was driving slowly, accelerating as it went. It made a colourful impression on the digital sensor of my camera!
Light Trails on Eamon de Valera Bridge
Evening traffic whizzes past last week. Just after the sun had set, but the street light above my head hadn’t come on yet, so I got a nice long exposure. How does photography affect your memory? Interesting podcast episode.
Night Shifts and Trailing Lights
Construction signs on Parnell Bridge in front of Cork City Hall were lit up by a passing bus a few nights ago.
Steel Wool Spinning at Night
Spinning flaming steel wool around creates fiery trails in the air. Thanks Henry, for this photo I took in 2015!
Ghostly light trails in Amsterdam
Light trails left by passing bikes along a canal side road in Amsterdam. This photo is taken at the same location as the near miss photo I posted a few days ago.
All lit up in pink
The Parnell Place Bus Station in Cork is lit up from below by pink lighting. It’s a long exposure shot and a vehicle drove past during the shot. I wanted to get this shot and make sure that the red brick chimney to the far left was visible as it’s the most prominent part of…
