If you walk along the quay in Kinsale, Co Cork and glance across the harbour you’ll see the houses above. I’ve always wondered who lives over there and what do they think of the busy tourist town across the water.

A small sign in the window of a small B&B in Kinsale a few weeks ago. Business must be good, despite the downturn.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on the cover of Hello! in the window of a hairdresser in Kinsale. That was some crazy amount of money to buy the rights to the first pictures of their twins, Knox and Vivienne. At least it’s going to charity, but as soon as Hello! published them the same shots were everywhere online.
I shot a lot of images in Ballycotton this afternoon with the Panasonic FZ5 compact camera. Didn’t really miss the Canon 20D at all, especially the weight of that camera. The FZ5 has a fairly ok macro capability and I got a few nice shots of knots in rope that I just could not do with my Canon mount lenses.

Heineken logo silhouette on the ground outside a cafe in Kinsale on a very bright sunny day some time back.
If you’re wondering, the image above mirrored, otherwise the logo would be backwards!

The quiet, residential part of Kinsale as photographed from the busy touristy part across the harbour! This was a long exposure shot that came out quite nicely but it did show up the dead pixels on my sensor again. Good thing I don’t have time to shoot many of these types of photos nowadays.
The fight against comment spammers never ends. This blog is listed on a few “do follow” listings and I caught someone this morning leaving a comment after they came here from a “site:inphotos.org” Google search. The comment is delinked but even if I hadn’t, his url still wouldn’t have shown because I only show it after a certain number of comments have been made. It’s my thank you to the regular commenters here. The pagerank you get from that link isn’t diluted by the spammers.
PS. Phil O’Kane will be in Cork next weekend from Friday to Sunday. I’ll be meeting him at Robodock at 3pm and hopefully before but maybe we can get a small photomeet together at some stage on Saturday or Sunday?

Down in Kinsale on Monday, I watched a couple get their small boat ready to sail off into the harbour with my friend Justin. He’s a keen sailor but he hasn’t been on the water in ages, and I could see he was itching to get out there. To be honest, the evening was so nice I would have liked to get out there and sail off on the calm waters.
This was actually just outside Gallery ICA. We popped in for a minute but Haydn was on the phone and couldn’t talk so we didn’t stay too long. Did I say how nice the evening was? Got lots of shots too of a very busy bank holiday Kinsale. The place was teeming with people.
PS. I’m going to be plugging the Doneraile Photowalk all this week. Hope to see you there on Sunday!

Skyhawk, a boat moored in Kinsale harbour. Moored there for quite some time by the looks of things. It’s aptly named. It seems the local bird population have taken a liking to it and made it a stopping off point.
I didn’t go to the Marathon today. Adam was up until 10.30pm last night bawling and crying after the exciting day he had at a bbq. Parents – next time someone tells you, “ah sure, he’ll grow out of it”, or “he needs to meet more people”, you should .. well, I can’t repeat what I feel you should do, but make sure they know that children don’t like changes to their routine, that when they’re over stimulated during the day, the parents suffer that night or the following day. Empathy, that’s what people want.

Group shot of almost everyone who attended the wedding of Barry Owens and Ann Murphy on Saturday in Kinsale, Co. Cork. The official photographer very kindly didn’t mind when I took a few shots alongside her.
I originally decided this was going to be black and white but after consultation with my creative half (aka my wife Jacinta) I decided to post it in colour. I desaturated the image slightly and brought up the red, blue and cyan channels a bit.
If you look carefully you’ll see Barry’s brother-in-law Matt near the top of the church! Yes, that’s the sad old tosser!
