Standing for Palestine in Cork

A man carrying a Palestinian flag after the protest rally last weekend. I met him on Nano Nagle Bridge, and he said he comes in whenever he can, to join the weekly rally against the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Cork City Walks Past Fashion Giants

Advertising goes unnoticed as people hurry past on Opera Lane, Cork.

Did you know the rugby shirt, with its bold stripes, was first popularised in the 19th century?

A Quiet Walk on Cape Clear

Two people walking along the road by the south harbour on a pleasant, warm day in 2013. I haven’t been back there in a long time, but hopefully, I’ll make a return this summer.

A Musical Afternoon in the Library

A close-up image of a musician playing a blue acoustic guitar and singing into a microphone in Cork City Library. The performer wears a black hat, white shirt, and brown vest, with bookshelves and a guitar on a stand in the background.
A candid photograph of two musicians performing in Cork City Library, surrounded by bookshelves. One musician plays the violin while the other plays an acoustic guitar and sings into a microphone. A small red table with water glasses and a bottle stands in the foreground, and a guitar rests on a stand between the performers. A library sign reading "Romance" is visible on a shelf behind them.

Joey Neville entertained a small audience in Cork City Library this afternoon with a selection of his own compositions, and other tunes. He was later joined by Eileen Healy on violin.

Flying Hooves at Dawstown Point to Point

Action photo of a horse race at Dawstown Point to Point in County Cork, showing two jockeys in red and blue silks and white and blue silks riding horses mid-jump over a brush fence, with spectators and orange safety fencing in the background, and another horse visible in the foreground.

A few of the photos I took today at the Dawstown Point to Point. We’ve been very lucky in the last few years that the weather has been good when these races were held!

The world in reflection

On a cold December night in 2018, I was taking photographs of reflected light in the puddles of the Docklands in Cork along with others from Blarney Photography Club.

Henry would have been on the light stick, and I’m sure I’ve posted other photos from the night, over the years as the lights are striking.

Red Cans and Boat Plans

Twenty years ago, I visited Baltimore in Co Cork and photographed these people coming from a boat in the harbour. They were in great form, with smiles all around. 🙂

Cycling Through Evergreen Street

These days, it’s so unusual to see a cyclist who isn’t a delivery person on the roads in Cork City that this man caught me by surprise as he turned into Industry Street from Evergreen Street.

Luckily I had my camera out, as I was walking down to Nano Nagle Place for their photography exhibit where I had a number of photos on display. Can’t believe that was in 2019.

A Moment in Red Stripes

I spotted this scene a couple of years ago while out with my photography club. It was all stripes: stripes on his polo shirt, and stripes on the shuttered shop behind him.

Waiting for the Bus on Grand Parade

A young couple at the Grand Parade bus stop, with their phones out, caught my eye on a mild May afternoon in 2018. I couldn’t help but notice their shoes. Are they matching, or is it just the angle?

Cherry Blossoms in Bloom

Cherry blossoms bloom on a tree at the other end of my park every year, but I always forget to bring my camera to photograph it until this afternoon.
