Lionel Richie hates this one trick

There’s no ceiling on this building. For the younger reader, watch. 🙂

This long derelict building in Skibereen is an unfortunate eyesore that’s surrounded by a lively town, and shops and buildings decorated for the Christmas season. It stands opposite the entrance to the lovely Abbeystrewry Church and nearby Aldi.

I went back in time through Google Street View, and it has been abandoned and derelict since at least 2009! What a waste.

The eye on the street

If you’re a fan of street art, you’ll love this vibrant and eye-catching hoarding in Cork City. What was once a dull and drab barrier around a derelict site has been transformed into a colourful canvas of graffiti. The hoarding is situated on the corner of Sheare Street and Grattan Street and it’s impossible to miss its bold and striking presence.

While the small one-storey building that once stood on this spot may be long gone, the art that has taken its place is alive with energy and creativity. I was particularly drawn to the striking eye that gazes out at the world from the corner of the hoarding. It’s a powerful reminder that even in the midst of decay and neglect, there is always beauty to be found in unexpected places.

Howya Derelict Cork!

A building on the corner of Sheare Street and Moore Street in Cork appears to be derelict for a number of years. If you take a look at the location on Google Maps you can go back through the years.

In 2014 it appears someone broke the right hand window as it is covered by wood but in the next photo the window is covered by that paint again. Some time between 2017 and 2019 the front of the building was given a lick of paint. The pavement in front was upgraded in that time too so that might account for that.

There’s a bouquet of flowers outside the building in 2017 making me dread to think what reason it was there. 🙁

Anyway, this building is in a great location. It appears to have been an office. This and other buildings around the city that are underused might find more use as a residential building.

Mad about Cork Derilicition

In the midst of a housing crisis and buildings up and down the country are left empty and rotting away.

Follow Frank O’Connor and Jude Sharry on Twitter. The Derelict Ireland hashtag is full of photos of crumbling or boarded up buildings all over the country.

Meanwhile, people live, 6 to a tiny room, in Dublin because that’s all they can afford. There’s something really twisted and greedy about Ireland.

One of my Brazilian friends lives in a one bedroom apartment with 5 other Brazilian girls paying 400 euro each…. That’s above what the landlord would get if they just rented it to a couple, I don’t understand how it’s legal. They have bunk beds in a tiny room. It’s inhumane.

Derelict Crosshaven

Crosshaven is such a lovely town. I love to visit there, walking along the water front. The sounds of the wind blowing through the boat yard and the clinking of ropes and tackle hitting off masts is ever present. From a distance the town is picturesque, with the spire of the church towering over everything.

Unfortunately, even here you’ll find signs of derelict Ireland. I walked up the hill by the chipper and looking over the town is a small dilapidated cottage that has seen better days. This photo was taken about a year ago. Has anything been done about it since?

Pure #DerelictIreland

These four buildings on North Main Street, Cork, are an eyesore. Thankfully they have been the subject of a compulsory purchase order by the local council so hopefully they will be saved and developed.
