Traffic must go left
Traffic must go left. This is one of those shots that has sat in TODO folder for ages and ages because I liked it, but it was sorely in need of some work. I probably cheated by making it black and white. Shot down at Cork Docklands about 13 months ago.
Rushing through countryside
I shot this through the window of our car while driving back to the ranch after Automattic’s trip to Biosphere 2 in Arizona a few months ago. I love how the foreground blurs but the background and the sky remain motionless and static. Love the movement.
Windswept Cliff
Rough grass clings to the headland near Mizen Head in West Cork as waves crash on the cliffs far below. On the day I took this it was a lovely warm, sunny day, but I Love the effect black and white has on this scene. It sends a chill through me looking at it, especially…
Misty Morning Bird
What were you doing at 5:52am this bright Sunday morning? Fast asleep? Our little boy Adam had us up and about bright and early. Bleary eyed parents who read this will I’m sure agree that it’s a shame young kids don’t realise the weekend is for sleeping in. I would have missed this shot though…
House on the hill
A house with a striking red door overlooks a field with sheep in one corner and a feeding trough in the foreground. This was shot near Bantry in West Cork a few months ago and I just love the vast rolling grassy slope of the ground. Cork City Marathon is on Monday. It starts at…
Rough Weather ahead at Allihies
Allihies in West Cork is a beautiful beach surrounded by beautiful scenery but on this day in February clouds hung over our heads, the sun broke through momentarily but the seas still lashed at the coast and I almost got drenched while shooting on the pier there. Love this shot though, well worth braving the…
The old boat at Mizen Head
Next time you’re out at Mizen Head you might notice this abandoned boat lying upside down by the visitor center. I almost missed it but I looked back to get a shot of the cliffs in the background. This makes a nice foreground I think. Anyway, must have been an awful chore dragging that boat…
Lifted to the Heavens
A piece of building equipment is raised high into the air by a construction crane. I presume it’s full of cement, but I know I wouldn’t want to be standing underneath, just in case. Another shot of the construction cranes I posted yesterday. I love the contrast of the black sky and cranes and the…
Three in the sky
I guess the number of high rise cranes we’ll see over our urban environment will decrease as the building industry collapses. Meanwhile there are plenty around. Here’s three I shot in the middle of Cork City from Emmett Place. At night they’re lit up which is when I shot short circuit. Mallow Camera Club had…
Which way from Castletownbere?
There are so many places to visit in West Cork. Here’s a few of them. We didn’t visit Dursey Island but the beach at Allihies is lovely!
An Fear Marbh san uisce
An Fear Marbh, or “The Dead Man” in English lies off the coast of Co. Kerry. I posted another photo of the island taken on the same night as this one here, but it was such a beautiful evening I took quite a few shots!
Empty road on Slea Head
An empty road curves around Slea Head, Co. Kerry on a beautiful September day in 2006.
