The boats of Cape Clear

Some of the boats docked at the harbour in Cape Clear, Co Cork. This was in August 2013, the last time I’ve been there, when we walked up and down the hills of the island and enjoyed the sunny day.

Dusk’s Divine Dance

Just as the sun set on a beautiful December evening, I photographed St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral in the distance, with the big wheel on the Grand Parade in the foreground.

I love that people on the big wheel were waving!

Cork’s Spiritual Heights

The historic spire of St. Anne’s Church, Shandon Bells, rises out of the mist, with the North Cathedral, the Cathedral of St Mary & St Anne, behind it.

In the foreground is the roof of SS Peter & Paul’s Church and the nearby Presbytery.

This was photographed on December 10th, 2016. Just a day over 8 years ago. I think it’s not possible to photograph this scene now. The new Capitol building is in the way.

Ruins and Beacons

The Baltimore Beacon can be spotted between the ruins of a Franciscan Friary on Sherkin Island. The Beacon is around 900m behind the ruins, sitting on a cliff overlooking the sea.

The Friary, known locally as The Abbey, was founded in 1460, and it continued to act as a religious building until 1650, when it was confiscated by Cromwellian soldiers.

Horses on Sherkin Island

We were visiting Sherkin Island in 2015 when I saw a rider pulling another horse along with him. This was on Cow Strand, but I’d seen him riding on Silver Strand earlier in the day. A lovely, warm, August day just before school was about to start again.

Wisdom Visits Cork

In 2018, a ship called WISDOM visited Cork. Which is odd because this site says the ship was renamed, “Jasmine Scan”, in 2012. Apparently, it’s now called “WARTHOG” and bears a striking orange colour that’ll be hard to miss.

If you were ever nostalgic for the old R&H Hall building, it’s here too. Must be loads of photos of that place taken by loads of people over the years. I’d love to see some from when it was actually being used.

Doggy had their hair done

It’s lovely to see well cared for dogs. Shih tzus need so much grooming or their fur gets in their eyes, but this one had a nice bow, and happily walked along a street in Madrid.

Whistling on a bullet

A man blows over the top of a bullet casing at a military show in the old Cork Gaol in 2013.

It’s an odd feeling to post this photo. I’ve had it in my “todo” album for more than a decade and apparently never posted it before. Once it’s published I won’t see it so often as I don’t revisit the “published” album too often.
