A near miss on the water

I captured a near miss when I made this long exposure shot of a canal in Amsterdam. Two boats were heading towards each, and it was only by gunning the engines of the one that went under the bridge on the right that they missed each other. People on board must have watched nervously, but it all turned out OK in the end.

The photo was taken just about here on Google Maps at the junction of Keizersgracht and Leidsegracht. The first night I walked past, the lights had been turned off as we were out too late but the next night was worth the walk there.

The Tide is Out

The Tide is Out

Low tide on the River Lee recently, but with the talk of drought in Europe this summer, it’s hard not to jump to the conclusion that the water level is extra low.

I drove by the river yesterday evening during high tide. The water was only 30cm or less below the level of the street, an extremely high tide, and quite a contrast to the low!

A slightly different version of yesteryday’s black and white shot of the River Lee. Which one do you prefer?

The river in black and white

The River Lee in Cork shot from the Nano Nagle Bridge (erected in 1985 to commemorate Cork’s 800th birthday). Far off in the distance is Holy Trinity Church as well as Parliament Bridge. That ugly building on the right is where the IDA have their offices. What an eye sore.

Another version of this shot tomorrow. I couldn’t decide which one I liked best so I decided to post both!
