The Rocks of Ballycotton

The rocks of Ballycotton with the sea breaking on them reduced to a fog by a long exposure photo. Ballycotton Lighthouse is visible in the background on an island a few hundred metres offshore.

I was there last night with Blarney Photography Club. A lovely evening taking photos and then a bit of a chat in a local pub.

Happy Gotcha Day, Diego!

Diego, our chihuahua, came into our lives on this day many years ago. He’s a little older now, and maybe a little wiser too, especially when it comes to treats and getting cuddles.

He loves playing with toys. He has a strong fetch instinct, and he will run back and forth across the kitchen to fetch those toys for you. For at least 5 laps anyway, and then he gets tired and looks at you as if to say, “What? You expect me to get that toy again?”

Like many small dogs, Diego is very reactive. Don’t rub him. Don’t be that person who says, “It’s OK, I know dogs.” He’ll just snap at you, sorry. But, earn his confidence and trust, and he will adore you for it.

Recently, he’s slowed down a bit. A trip to the vet confirmed a bulging disc in his spine, but pain medication and taking it easy is helping him recover. He has his own buggy for longer walks, and well, he loves when we carry him up and down the stairs too.

This is Diego. He’s a tiny dog, but he’s all dog. He’s full of life.

Not Sleeping in Ardmore

I have an orange t-shirt, but it’s not this lovely bright orange. I love that it matches the orange of the building, and then I noticed afterwards that he’s wearing light blue shorts! It’s orange and blue all the way down!

Sheep’s Head Sunset

Over the weekend I stayed in a B&B on Sheep’s Head in Co. Cork and of course I had to photograph the sunset from the headland. I shared another photo taken on the same night recently, but I’ve photographed the sunset in this part of the world several times.

I wasn’t expecting much as there were thick clouds on the horizon, but I liked the way the light lit up the cloud, and the foreground bushes added a bit of depth too.

What you’re seeing over there in the distance is the Beara Peninsula. Another beautiful part of the country!

Carrigdrohid on the Lee

The castle at Carrigdrohid, as seen from across the river from my previous photo of the castle a few days ago.

I was almost in the river taking this shot, following in the steps of Mark Gorman who waded in further and made a superb shot of the castle.
