The Port of Cork

The sign saying "PORT OF CORK" displayed on the middle island of the city, visible to any boats coming up the river from the harbour. The supports of the sign are reflected in a puddle, as are the lights and nearby building. The Cork skyline is visible in the background of this sunset photo.

The PORT OF CORK sign welcomes any boat coming into the city, but it’s probably on borrowed time if development continues in this area on Custom House Quay.

I made this from 3 separate images because I forgot I had my wide-angle lens in my camera bag. I was out with friends from Blarney Photography Club photographing the city. Here’s a post with more photos!

City Hall in Green

Cork City Hall is lit up in green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day today. We went out on Thursday night to photograph it and I decided to get something different by shooting an out of focus image

The Atlantic Pond in Reflection

Trees are reflected in the water of the Atlantic Pond in Cork. The water is very still, and a clear blue sky is unblemished by clouds.

I love walking by the Marina and sometimes walking around the Atlantic Pond. Most of the water was deliciously calm this afternoon when I visited.

Starry Night Sky

Stars pop and light pollution shows in the sky while the foreground trees and bushes are silhouetted. Poles carrying wires too.

After photographing the National Space Centre on a dark January evening I turned around and spotted this silhouette. Luckily, there wasn’t much of a wind blowing, but we were lucky. A chill wind blew in a few minutes later.

The Idle Hour on Albert Quay

Various buildings on Albert Quay in Cork are reflected in the River Lee one early morning just after sunrise when the sky is coloured by the rising the sun.

Well, the Idle Hour, Navigation Square, 1 Albert Quay and the other pubs along Victoria Road.

This was taken one morning early, just after the sun rose. I’ve taken this photo a few times over the years and I love the reflection in the River Lee, at high tide, like the buildings are floating at sea.

An entertaining dog

A little doggy in her coat

A small white dog with a coat on looking at the camera. Her owner has him on a pink lead. Her owners' foot and leg are also visible, and they're standing in front of a jeweller's shop.

I don’t remember what this dog’s name was, but she was so cute I asked her human dad if I could photograph her. No petting was allowed as she is the typical small dog and isn’t fond of strangers rubbing her. Not surprising really. Would you like giants rubbing your head?

Yes, it is very long

All lit up in pink

The roof of the bus station in Cork City is lit up by pink lighting as a vehicle drives past and brake lights are captured in mid air. Behind the bus station is the red brick chimney stack belonging to a factory that sat in that location from around 1920 but was demolished in recent years.

The Parnell Place Bus Station in Cork is lit up from below by pink lighting. It’s a long exposure shot and a vehicle drove past during the shot.

I wanted to get this shot and make sure that the red brick chimney to the far left was visible as it’s the most prominent part of a factory and industrial buildings that used to sit on that block. Some surrounding buildings were demolished in recent years. Apparently, they date from the 1920s.

I’ll have a pint

At the bar of a pub in a hotel. The taps that pour the drinks are labelled with the brands of the drinks offered. Carslberg, Rockshore, Smithwicks, Guinness, Birramoretti, Coors, Heineken, Murphys.

Property of Pipers

There’s no parking in front of La Scala in Crosshaven, and the no parking signs belong to Pipers. This time of year, Piper’s is fairly quiet, but hopefully in the summer they’ll be open again and busy.

Clouds of flame

Sunrise with dark clouds at the top of the frame. Yellow and orange sunlight lighting up the bottom of the clouds and the clear sky underneath. Silhouettes of trees and branches occupy the bottom third of the image.

Shortly after I sat down at my desk this morning, I looked out the window to see quite a beautiful sunrise lighting up the sky.

The top of the sky was a cool blue, moving to dark cloud lower down, then melting to a lovely orange and yellow colour before the sun rose over the distant hill.
