The Cathedral on the River
Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral in Cork sits just above the River Lee, towering over nearby buildings. I took this photo from South Gate Bridge on a lovely evening recently.
Cork Pride Party at the Port 2023
A few photos from the 2023 Cork Pride “party at the port” on Kennedy Quay. There was a huge crowd there, with people coming and going all the time. A band played the hits, followed by a few words from the Lord Mayor of Cork, and then the drag queens came out to entertain the…
The cat at the window
I was wandering around town when I spotted a cat jump up on a window sill, sit down and then stare at me. Probably wondering if I had treats for them. 🙂
The Ruins of Kilcrea Friary
Kilcrea Friary in Co Cork as the sun set behind it. Despite the unusually wet summer, this particular evening was dry and warm and just about perfect for a sunset.
The cars of Inch Beach
Just some of the vehicles parked on Inch Beach the other day. Adventurous folk!
Narrator: vehicles weren’t removed
It’s good to see a warning for motorists who park on Inch Beach in Co. Kerry. High tide was at 5:15pm yesterday, and motorists were urged to remove their vehicles “in GOOD TIME”. We parked in the car park and left at 5:42pm, but there were still a few hardy souls on the beach with…
Looking for a room
A mural on the side of a building on North Main Street is called “What is home” and features a person wearing an Amazon box, as that’s the only accommodation they can find. In this photo the figure is looking sideways to the visible window on the front of the building, as if asking, “why…
Shandon Bells from Cornmarket Street
Look up from Cornmarket Street and you’ll see the steeple of St. Anne’s Church, or Shandon Bells!
Looking for fish
I’ve posted photos of the Kyle Street mural before, but here’s another one. A man looked up at what I was photographing as he walked past, and I couldn’t resist taking a photo!
Mauve, green, and red
3 doors, all different colours. I love it! Modern housing is so boring.
The McCurtain Street Building Site
Today was Robert’s funeral, so here’s a street photo he would like. It’s got layers, it’s got people, it’s got a changing city, from the old to the new. Robert, you will be missed.
Lines on the wall
A drain pipe comes down the wall, taking corners in strict lines, while the thin branches of a bush cling to the smooth surface. The branches look like they want to smother or envelop the wall, but the branches are bare. The wall is smooth. All dead.
