The rooftops of Lisbon

The city of Lisbon lay before me as I looked out the window of my apartment. We had quite a view from the living room window, so one night I made this time blend photo of the city. In the background you’ll find the statue of the Sanctuary of Christ the King and the suspension bridge, the Ponte 25 de Abril, linking Lisbon with Almada on the other side of the river.

I was lucky there was any sort of sunset that night as the weather had been terrible all day long with heavy rain rolling over the city, making the cobbled streets slippy.

The chihuahua model

I spotted a woman walking past with her two dogs. Moments before, the chihuahua was barking his head off, but he quietened down when he saw me. An obvious poser, and he just loves the camera!

Walking by the stall

Late one evening in Valencia I went walking with my son and, of course, I took my camera with me. He loved walking around the city. It was warm, and full of people living their lives. I noticed a man walking by himself near this stall, but he wasn’t much more than a silhouette in the darkness.

Stop crows walking on people

It’s a serious problem all over the world. Crows are walking on people. In Cork, they put up signs hoping to discourage the crows, but instead the crows just walk on the signs.

Elevador da Bica from another Tram

One of the trams of the Elevador da Bica photographed by me as I went past in another tram along Largo Calhariz. A famous sight in Lisbon, and I was lucky to catch this photo as we trundled along.

The dolphins of L’Oceanogràfic Valencia

A dolphin jumps out of the water with a blue ball in it's mouth.

We visited the aquarium in Valencia while on a trip there, like most tourists do. It was a remarkable experience, even if I felt sad that a Beluga whale had what must be a small tank for such a large creature.

The dolphin show was a sight to see. Commentary was in Spanish, so I couldn’t follow it, but the dolphins there seemed happy, and bonded well with their trainers.

From Evening to Night in Cork

The north side of Cork City, with the North Cathedral and Shandon Bells visible. The Church of the Ascension is barely visible on the horizon, with the restored glowing cross bright in the night sky.

This is a time blend photo. Two images, shot at different times of the day, combined into one. The sky was photographed at sunset, when the sky was still bright, while the urban streets and buildings were captured much later after sunset. A first attempt, on an evening of rain and cold when we didn’t expect much of a sunset at all.

Here’s a video that explains how to do it:

Here’s another, slightly different edit of the photo that will make it more obvious what’s going on.

A time blend of the north side of Cork City with The North Cathedral and the steeple of St. Anne's Church, or Shandon Bells visible.
