Oscar in the Park
8375

I needed to look up a photo to find out where it was taken but when I typed 8375, the number of the image, into Lightroom’s search field I noticed how many similar portrait shots showed up. Images from Kerry to Clare to Kilkenny to London, and taken from 2004 to 2013.

The Bandon Road Roundabout, pre-flyover
The flyover over the Bandon Road Roundabout in Bishopstown is completed (or so I’ve read, I haven’t driven over it yet) but here’s what it looked like 2006, well before any work was done. The pedestrian walkway I took this from is long gone and the area itself looks a lot different now!
Now, all we need is a north-south road with a 100kph speed limit and we’re all sorted.
Further info on boards.ie and Evening Echo and here too.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 24, 2013
A NEW era of motoring in Cork dawned today as the city’s new 60 million twin flyovers opened to traffic on the South Ring Road.
Traffic travelling both east and west on the N25 were directed on to the new flyovers at the Sarsfield Road and Bandon Road roundabouts from 6am this morning.
Up to 60,000 vehicles every day will now be taken off the two roundabouts, vastly reducing traffic congestion in the Bishopstown and Wilton areas.
Travel times are also expected to be cut by up to 30 minutes at peak traffic periods with the opening of the flyovers which took two years to complete.

Boats in Cobh
Some of the boats that have taken up semi-permanent residence in Cobh pictured in 2006. I think some of those boats are still there!
That was a beautiful but cold January evening.

Emma, a small alley somewhere in San Francisco. Shot three years ago while on a photowalk around the city.
Only 9 places left for the photowalk tomorrow. I emailed everyone today. Did you get your email?

Liam Foley RIP
I have a story to tell. A story I’ve been meaning to tell for more than a year now. Many moons ago I posted the picture above. It was taken on August 28th, 2006 and posted shortly afterwards. Just over a year later Sinead Foley, niece of the man pictured above contacted me. His name was Liam Foley, and unfortunately he passed away 2 months after this photo was taken.
I was shocked at the news, but also so glad that I had this photo of her uncle; he’s relaxed, himself, enjoying a cigarette. I emailed Sinead, giving her the image to print and asked her to tell me about her uncle:
Donncha,
Many thanks for sending that on, it’ll be lovely to give the family.
His name was Liam Foley and he drank there and the Capwell S&S Pub in
Douglas Street. He passed away on November 1st 2006 (just 2 months
after the picture was taken) and he wasn’t sick at the time the photo
was taken. He fell ill just 5 days before he died. It was a friend of
the families that noticed this picture while surfing the Net. No he
didn’t know his photo was on the Net, something tells me he probably
didn’t know what the internet was.Uncle Liam was 69 years of age.
Thanks,
Sinead.
May he rest in peace.

Puerto Del Carmen Boats
I could post a photo of the snow that fell this morning in Blarney but I think everyone is sick of the cold weather. Instead here’s a photo from my honeymoon in Lanzarote. This was taken in Puerto Del Carmen on a roasting hot day when even the ground was too hot to touch!
More sunny photos to follow! 🙂

so many people pass me by
Footsteps in the sand speak of many people passing this way.
Shot at Garrettstown Beach in October 2006. A very different shot to my previous Footprints in the sand.
Remember a few weeks ago I explained how I backed up my photos? Good thing I have backups as my first external drive has possibly died. It wouldn’t mount at first, and the drive kept making “spinning up” sounds but it has finally been recognised by Linux. Unfortunately attempts to get even a directory listing result in input/output errors. I’m doing an fsck of it but I’ll probably be buying another drive tomorrow!
Everything is backed up. There’s 411GB, or 8 years of photos on there, and lots of family videos I’d hate to lose. Thankfully they’re safe.
