I posted a number of these photos before but not all, and I’ve given them a “lick of paint” in Lightroom so they’re developed differently now anyway. I’ll update this gallery if I work on any of the other photos from that day.

Long time readers will remember the thieving duck photo that I made in 2005. Scratch that, many people who use email, Facebook, Twitter or other social media website will be familiar with this photo. A recent post on Reddit showed me just how tired some people are of it as a meme! I would dearly love to know who it was that copied the photo into a joke email because I would thank them.
At first I was upset that my photo had been taken and used without my permission. It took me a long time to figure out that it doesn’t matter. I had fun taking the photo and it’s a reminder of a great holiday. I smiled looking at the photos this morning while I picked out these shots for this post. I wonder if the model, or the people pictured here have seen the meme?
I had no idea who financed this shoot although the Snopes article on it suggests Western Union did, nor did I talk to anyone there but I saw a chance to get an interesting photo and I took it.
Here’s a gallery of behind the scenes shots. Enjoy!

Who? Is it Brian Cowen, or Biff?
I’ve had this photo on my computer for 5 years, waiting for it’s time to shine.

A very happy crew member of the Köln when she docked in Cork in 2005.
Now that I’ve archived my photo collection to DVD (only 41 DVDs for 2009 so far!) I’m converting RAW files to Jpeg to reduce the insane storage requirements of 179GB of data for 2009 alone. As an example, I squashed 2GB of RAW files to high quality Jpeg files that only took up 362MB. I’ve saved over 20GB so far and I’ve only started. 🙂
It is risky having only one copy of the RAW files on DVD but I haven’t yet deleted the files from my backup drives. The plan is to make duplicate DVD copies of each year, and then every year or more likely every 2 years make another 2 copies of each disc. Or use a Bluray burner if they’re available.
Or use a hard disk, I suspect that the disk capacity I need will probably come close to the cost of a spindle of high quality DVD discs.
Me paranoid? Not paranoid enough.
