• Reflection on the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower reflected in the pond at the Jardins du Trocadéro in Paris.

I remember reading that police would stop you taking photos of the Eiffel Tower at night with a camera on a tripod but I never experienced that. Do they do that any more?

  • The Chauffeur and the Rolls

A chauffeur stands nervously in front of his Rolls Royce car in London, waiting and biting his nails.

I was waiting for someone to come out of a shop, so I did some street photography while I was in London. I found a chauffeur standing in front of his Rolls Royce car, waiting, too. I wonder who owns the car?

  • Red Clouds at Sunset

High clouds are lit by the sun after it has set. They're a vivid red thanks to the sun shining through the atmosphere. Street lights and the tops of houses are visible too.

  • A Masked Break

At the height of the Covid19 Pandemic in July 2020, someone takes a break out in the open of a narrow street wearing a mask while he looks at his phone.

At the height (one of them, anyway) of the COVID19 pandemic in July 2020, someone takes a break on the street. He still wears his mask, despite being outside and nowhere near anyone.

Numbers of COVID19 infections are rising again, unfortunately. Schools are back after the summer. It’s so depressing.

  • Boolaboom at the GPO

A large crowd watching Boolaboom perform in front of the GPO in Cork on Friday night

Boolaboom, a “super-sized brass and percussion big-band” played on Oliver Plunkett Street, in front of the GPO and they were great!

  • The Service at An Brog

Members of the band, The Service, play on stage at An Brog. A singer, bass guitarist, Saxophone player and drummer are visible.

We saw The Service play in An Bróg last night and they were as good as they’ve always been.

Best moment was, ‘For anyone under, uh, 50, THIS IS SKA!’

I’ll admit I didn’t know Madness were a ska band. My wife introduced me to the wider world of that genre of music!

  • It’s better to be seen

A worker dressed in orange overalls and a hard hat inspects a device he's working on while standing at the edge of a busy road. Cars and busses behind him.

A worker on a busy road in Edinburgh, Scotland. It’s a busy road, so it’s a good thing he’s conspicuous!

  • Traffic and housing

Car traffic and a white van crossed a bridge in front of me, going through a junction with traffic lights, while the "What is Home?" mural on South Main Street is visible in the background.

The centre of Cork City will become a traffic free zone this Saturday for a few hours. The area visible in the photo above will still have cars in it, but it’ll be interesting to see what effect this will have on the day.

Visible in the background, of course, is “What is home?” by Dublin-based artist Asbestos.

This photo makes me feel uneasy.

  • Justice

The word JUSTICE is painted on the hoarding around a derelict site on Sullivan's Quay. The spire of a deconsecrated church in the background.

The word JUSTICE painted on the side of the hoarding surrounding the derelict site on Sullivan’s Quay in Cork seems appropriate.

So many homeless in the city, and this huge area is still a heap of rubble in the middle of the city. Not that whatever gets built there will help the homeless. It was supposed to be the site of a glass covered hotel AFAIR.

  • A Street Performance for the kids

A street performer at the recent North Main Street festival in late August has the attention of young and old. He's standing in front of "Scotts For Tools", a DIY shop.

At the end of August, North Main Street closed to traffic as a carnival was held there. A huge crowd of adults and children descended on the street and the place was buzzing. 🙂

I wonder if this could be the same man I photographed on a unicycle in 2006?
