• Flowers of the Eiffel Tower

The EIffel Tower in the distance while at ground level are lovely flowers and plants.

When you visit the Eiffel Tower, you’ll see the massive Jardin de la Tour Eiffel stretch off into the distance. In warm weather, the gardens are thronged with people in the evenings who gather to watch the Eiffel Tower light up.

This photo was shot on one such evening. The night was calm, and warm and it was lovely to be out.

  • An entertaining dog

A small, white dog looks at the camera. He's wearing a colourful coat while people walk past behind him.

There are lots of little dogs around Cork City these days, and they wear cute little coats against the rain and cold.

  • Lost in Paris

Someone sits on a rock bench, lost in a book, while in the background a woman in white seems lost in the courtyard of the Panthéon, Paris.

A long figure seems lost in the courtyard of the Panthéon in Paris, while another sits on a rock bench lost in a book. An actual, honest to goodness, paper book.

  • A little doggy in her coat

A small white dog with a coat on looking at the camera. Her owner has him on a pink lead. Her owners' foot and leg are also visible, and they're standing in front of a jeweller's shop.

I don’t remember what this dog’s name was, but she was so cute I asked her human dad if I could photograph her. No petting was allowed as she is the typical small dog and isn’t fond of strangers rubbing her. Not surprising really. Would you like giants rubbing your head?

  • Alone in the crowd

A man sits at a table surrounded by other tables with people at them. He is alone, facing an empty chair.

Momentarily alone in a crowd at the Dingle Races a few years ago.

  • A Modern Sky

Looking up next to a building with coloured stripes to the left, and an apartment block to the right. Blue sky with light cloud in the middle.

Walking past the Museum Brandhorst in Munich and I noticed the pleasing lines of the museum and the repeating pattern of the flats next door.

  • Yes, it is very long

The trailer of a lorry sits in the yard where Piper's Funfair lives in Crosshaven. It has a warning sign on the back saying, "LONG VEHICLE"

The trailer of a lorry in Piper’s, Crosshaven. Not much activity happening there, but I liked this image.

  • Making Plans in London

A woman, deep in thought, wondering what she’ll buy at a market in London a few years ago.

I only noticed she had her glasses sitting on her head. Ingenious! I hate wearing sunglasses while walking, as I have to replace them with my glasses when I go somewhere dark.

  • Rowing past the ships

A man in a solitary boat rows up a river past ships docked at the Quay. Buildings in the background are somewhat obscured by fog, and the "Port of Cork" sign is visible to the far right of the image.

On a quiet October morning in 2016, I travelled into town as I saw there was fog forecast, and I wasn’t disappointed. While I was photographing the boats lined up along Kennedy Quay, a single rower came up the river.

He quickly glided past my position along the river, but I grabbed a few photos, including R&H Hall, and a view of the Elysian that is somewhat blocked by further development over in that direction.

When I go back there again some morning in eight years time to photograph the fog, I’m sure the quay will be unrecognisable.

  • All lit up in pink

The roof of the bus station in Cork City is lit up by pink lighting as a vehicle drives past and brake lights are captured in mid air. Behind the bus station is the red brick chimney stack belonging to a factory that sat in that location from around 1920 but was demolished in recent years.

The Parnell Place Bus Station in Cork is lit up from below by pink lighting. It’s a long exposure shot and a vehicle drove past during the shot.

I wanted to get this shot and make sure that the red brick chimney to the far left was visible as it’s the most prominent part of a factory and industrial buildings that used to sit on that block. Some surrounding buildings were demolished in recent years. Apparently, they date from the 1920s.

  • I’ll have a pint

At the bar of a pub in a hotel. The taps that pour the drinks are labelled with the brands of the drinks offered. Carslberg, Rockshore, Smithwicks, Guinness, Birramoretti, Coors, Heineken, Murphys.

  • Property of Pipers

A "no parking" bollard placed at the side of the road in Crosshaven proclaims it is the property of Pipers. That's a fairground in the town. A mother and daughter hold hands and walk into the background. La Scala is seen in the image too.

There’s no parking in front of La Scala in Crosshaven, and the no parking signs belong to Pipers. This time of year, Piper’s is fairly quiet, but hopefully in the summer they’ll be open again and busy.
