• A reflection in Pennys

A woman wearing a black and white patterned jacket leans against the window of a clothes shop. Other people walk in and a male head can just be seen over her shoulder.

The black and white pattern of this jacket caught my eye and gave me the idea of shooting a reflection here.

  • A cry for help

A woman walks past an Eircom phone box vandalised by graffiti and displaying pro-Gaza stickers.

These Eircom phone boxes are soon going to be a thing of the past as they are being removed, but this one had two large stickers against the war in Gaza that caught my eye.

  • Another tourist in Malaga

A tourist looks up at something unseen out of frame in Malaga, Spain.

Malaga has a huge tourist industry and is great for street photography. I think I’ve posted at least five images over the years from this very street, and have a couple more to go, too!

  • Waiting on Henry Street

Two men lean against a pole. One checks his phone, while the other one looks off in the distance.

There are many ways of waiting on a busy shopping street.

  • Friends hanging around

A group of young people sitting on a window sill down a side street. A woman and two men. They each have phones and the man on the right is speaking to someone outside the frame.

  • The Boats of Youghal

Five boats tied to the quay in Youghal on a dull, misty afternoon.

These boats were tied up in Youghal when we visited in November 2021.

  • Fog descends on Roche’s Point Lighthouse

Fog flows over the landscape and will soon cover the small town and the lighthouse. The water of Cork Harbour can be seen in the foreground.

Fog flowed in from the sea on a warm day in March, 2011. It almost covered the lighthouse, and it will do so a few minutes later.

  • The remains of the shop

A woman walks past the front entrance of the old Roches Stores, or later Debenhams, but now a derelict building in the heart of the city. The building is surrounded by hoarding.

All that remains of Debenhams is the faded imprint of the sign on the front of its previous location on St. Patrick’s Street, Cork.

  • Sunrise by the Brickeen Bridge

Reeds in the foreground, then water and far away hills are coloured yellow by the rising sun behind clouds in the sky.

On a trip with Blarney Photography Club to the Lakes of Killarney a year ago, we photographed the water as the sun rose over the mountains in the distance.

  • R&H Hall as it was

R&H Hall stands on Kennedy Quay before any demolition work took place. The flat area of the quay is visible in front.

At the start of February, this imposing building still stood on Kennedy Quay but now most of it is a pile of rubble.

  • ICM of sunset water

An ICM of the sun setting on the water at Crosshaven. Lovely orange and dark colours.

  • A bit late at the beach

Public toilets at a beach are lit up at night in the dark. Light streams out the windows.

The public toilets at Warren Beach, Co Cork, might seem like an unusual photo, but they were the only source of light nearby. Apart from a few minutes later when I ran up and down the beach with the flashlight on my phone for some fun long exposure shots.
