• A cat on a car roof

A tabby cat on a car roof, down a narrow street in Athens. He watched us carefully as we walked past, but he’s obviously used to people and didn’t budge at all, even as a stopped and took a few photos of him.

  • Reach for the skies

Figueres, in Catalonia, Spain is where Salvador Dali was born in 1904. You’ll find the Dalí Theatre and Museum in the town and some of his statues scattered around the place. Here’s one that’s fairly close to the museum. It’s quite a surreal piece, and it was quite a sight to see it out in public.

  • Hang on in there

Far above the waterfall at Mullinhassig, I found small shoots and leaves growing out of a tree trunk.

  • Queuing for the train

The metro station at Monastiraki Square in Athens, Greece, is rarely quiet, and we arrived just as people were getting on the train.

  • That’s a steep hill

The Old Youghal Road takes a steep dive right next to Bell’s Field, but there’s a lovely view. No wonder he stopped for a moment to admire the view on a sunny evening a few years ago.

  • The Rocks of Ballycotton

The rocks of Ballycotton with the sea breaking on them reduced to a fog by a long exposure photo. Ballycotton Lighthouse is visible in the background on an island a few hundred metres offshore.

I was there last night with Blarney Photography Club. A lovely evening taking photos and then a bit of a chat in a local pub.

  • The homes of Athens

From the fifth floor of an apartment block all the eye can see is apartment after apartment block. Balconies look out from most, but it’s a crowded city.

  • Happy Gotcha Day, Diego!

Diego, our chihuahua, came into our lives on this day many years ago. He’s a little older now, and maybe a little wiser too, especially when it comes to treats and getting cuddles.

He loves playing with toys. He has a strong fetch instinct, and he will run back and forth across the kitchen to fetch those toys for you. For at least 5 laps anyway, and then he gets tired and looks at you as if to say, “What? You expect me to get that toy again?”

Like many small dogs, Diego is very reactive. Don’t rub him. Don’t be that person who says, “It’s OK, I know dogs.” He’ll just snap at you, sorry. But, earn his confidence and trust, and he will adore you for it.

Recently, he’s slowed down a bit. A trip to the vet confirmed a bulging disc in his spine, but pain medication and taking it easy is helping him recover. He has his own buggy for longer walks, and well, he loves when we carry him up and down the stairs too.

This is Diego. He’s a tiny dog, but he’s all dog. He’s full of life.
