Make bubbles for the kids

Blowing bubbles on the street is a great way to keep children occupied! On St. Patrick’s Day this year a fairy lady blew bubbles for these kids who were having a ball catching them!

The Bike at the Library

Cork City Library on the Grand Parade used to have railings in front for locking up your bike. Those railings disappeared a few months ago but people still leave their bikes there.

The library itself will soon be the subject of a major facelift as a developer expands it into a new block of retail units and apartments as well as library.

Eye of the Shih Tzu

This is Oscar, our Shih Tzu. He has been a part of our family for just over a year now and he’s very devoted to my wife Jacinta. He loves playing with me too, but I know who he’d save from a sinking ship!

We were worried what would happen when the baby came along, but Oscar has been great. For the most part he has ignored Adam, but if a stranger should lean over Adam and his mom then Oscar will be out to growl and sometimes bark! That would be great if there was any danger but it’s almost always a friend or family so it’s become an annoyance we need to look out for.
Poor Oscar doesn’t get the same amount of attention as he did before baby but in general he behaves better, so that’s a good thing! I think he got a little cocky and just a little too confident of his place in the family hierarchy.

Walking exercise for the kids

Walking as an exercise is a great way to lose the pounds and get in shape, which is all well and good when you’re a toddler and you’re pushed around in a pram all day!

This was shot on Maylor Street, Cork a few months back when it was still cold. What am I saying? It’s still cold at times, even in the middle of the Summer but at least this Sunday looks to be a nice one!

Most popular photos of June 2007

The most popular photos of June 2007

  1. The Lady’s Red Boots was unsurprisingly the most popular of the photos I posted in June. I guess the combination of red boots and grey and dull background grabbed a lot of attention!
  2. Orange stripes and white clouds. I love leading lines, I love clouds. It was a beautiful day at the Conor Pass in Co. Kerry when I took this!
  3. Children at play was one shot I really enjoyed working on. Bright blue sky, vibrant colours. Yummy!

Most prolific commentators

  1. Josef who was using WordPress, but switched to Pixelpost recently. I won’t hold that against him as he has some nice photos!
  2. Gamma Goblin left a few comments on my blog this month. He bought some external drives just like I did!
  3. White intermezzo left a few comments on my flickr stream. Go take a look at her gorgeous photos of Singapore. Beautiful stuff!

Posts with most Comments this month

  1. Love Messages.
  2. Children at play.
  3. The Thieving Duck tied with Orange stripes and white clouds for 3rd place.

If you’re interested, the following SQL will give you the top commenters on your own WordPress blog:

SELECT comment_author, comment_author_url, count( * ) AS c FROM wp_comments WHERE comment_date > date_sub( NOW( ) , INTERVAL 1 MONTH ) GROUP BY comment_author ORDER BY c DESC

And this chunk of code will give you the posts with the most comments made in the past month:

SELECT comment_post_ID , post_name, count( * ) as c FROM wp_comments, wp_posts WHERE wp_comments.comment_post_ID = wp_posts.ID AND comment_date > date_sub( NOW( ) , INTERVAL 1 MONTH ) GROUP BY comment_post_ID ORDER BY `c` DESC

Killarney’s main street

This one’s for John. He should be able to see his surname on the far right of this picture.

Way back in February this year Killarney was going through it’s own turmoil with road works that pretty much did for traffic along this particular street. I’d like to see any SUV traverse that lot!

Girls dressed in white

Mommy and daughter are dressed all in white as they hurry around town shopping.

Taken on Patrick’s Street while I tried to dodge the previously mentioned hurrying mother and another shopper who had just been in to Awear.

Get updates by email from Flickr

I’m not sure how new this Flickr feature is, but it still has the “new” graphic next to it so I’m certain I’m sailing through unchartered waters for at least some of my visitors.

You’ve all probably been to the Recent Activity on your Flickr account by now, but tucked in at the bottom of that page is a link to Get updates by email.

Looks like Flickr can now email you when you get a new comment on a post, or when one of your contacts uploads a new photo! It’s also possible to do the former by subscribing to the feed on your recent activity page. That’s what I do, and I also use that feed in my Flickr comment importer to bring Flickr comments to this blog.

So, pick your medium, RSS or email. Which do you prefer for notifications?

Shoe Shopping

Off to the shops? Looks like these ladies, young and slightly older, have been busy already in “Shoe Zone” and other stores doing some shoe shopping. Mum looks a bit stressed, but daughter is off in her own world and probably enjoying the day!

This image was taken moments before I shot The hat and the smoke. Same car in the background, and you can see the subject of the previous photo just coming into the frame on the left!

Splendor in the grass

It’s so wonderful to see small little daisies growing up all on their own surrounded by grass everywhere. When the sun is shining and there is nothing to do except eat a nice picnic and stroll by the beach I’m in heaven.

I shot these bright little daisies down in Garrettstown, Co. Cork a few months ago.

You’ll need a model release form for that photo sir

Sometimes if you’re trying to sell photos you won’t legally be allowed to because you’ve photographed someone and their face is clear and identifiable in the image. A model release form is a contract between you and that person allowing you to sell that image.

Here’s a generic model release form for download that could be used for most situations. The language might be a bit frightening but that paragraph of text is so dense I suspect many people won’t read through it properly.

There are plenty more release forms to download so you don’t have any excuse to be caught out without one! The istockphoto release form looks to be more complete at first glance, but you would have to remove their logo and change the wording slightly if you want to use it for other agencies or stock sites.

Boy all alone on the street

It’s strange how you can be stuck in your own little world and not be aware of anything around you.

All around this boy were couples, either hand in hand, walking together or even framing him in the middle of the image, but I’m struck by his solitary movement through the street. He look lost in thought.
