Debenhams’ confused identity

Debenhams bought Irish department store chain, "Roches Stores", back in 2006, and rebranded their Cork store on Patrick Street shortly afterwards.

Unfortunately nobody has yet replaced the big "Roches Stores" logo at the top of the building. It’s still there, more than a year later! 🙂

Whirling around and around

A merry-go-round or whatever you call it kept the kids entertained in the Peace Park last night as Santa visited courtesy of 96FM.
Even the Lord Mayor of Cork turned up. He had no problems finding parking. I saw his car parked up on the broad new pavement outside the park. The “07 C 1” number plate is very distinctive.

Boy in his woolly hat

A small boy waits outside Brown Thomas with his dad while I presume his mother shops inside.

I had plenty of company while I waited!

Cassettes

I wonder if the teenager wearing this hoodie realised the irony of wearing a garment decorated with cassette images, a piece of technology he may not ever have used. The Wikipedia page has a lot more to say on the subject.

This was shot outside Brown Thomas on Patrick Street, Cork while I wheeled Adam around in his buggy.

Sitting around at the GPO

Teens sit around on the limestone blocks on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork. That’s the Post Office in the background and the infamous Hi-B Bar to the left where you can be thrown out or verbally abused if the eccentric owner doesn’t like the look of you!

Denis MacSweeney

One of the few photography shops left in Cork City center, Denis MacSweeney’s shop in Merchant’s Quay is a simple photo development outfit. O’Leary’s Camera World and MacSweeney’s on Oliver Plunkett St. will sell you cameras and all sorts of other photography bits. Unfortunately both shops were out of 77mm filters the last few times I called in.
