The rolling hills of the Irish countryside
People come from far and wide to see the beautiful Irish countryside and it’s no wonder. There’s such a wide range of different scenery that you could spend many a day discovering new beauty spots. This was shot near Dunmanway in West Cork. If you look very carefully you can see the wind power generators…
How to (not) shoot a solar eclipse
I went searching and found a few pages describing how to shoot the sun during a solar eclipse. All warned against looking at the sun directly. So, I ignored all that advice and got out my 75-300mm lens and grabbed a couple of shots of the sun with a chunk bitten out of it by…
Ryanair’s bumpy landing
Will Ryanair face a bumpy landing this year? Shots taken at Cork Airport of a Ryanair flight coming in to land. There are two small cottages just down the road from where I stood with children playing in the garden of one. I guess you get used to the engine whine after a while.
A touch of colour
A slightly different version of yesteryday’s black and white shot of the River Lee. Which one do you prefer?
Castletownbere Harbour
This is the harbour at Castletownbere with an impressive cloud hanging over the water. It may possibly be the same cloud over Allihies Beach but that’s probably just wishful thinking on my part. Both photos were taken close in time to each other so maybe ..
Pretty Yellow Flowers
Pretty yellow flowers bloom in late April in the grounds of the Westlodge Hotel we stayed in while on holiday in Bantry. Spring was late coming to these gardens so it was nice to see a splash of colour!
Biosphere 2
Biosphere 2 lies in the dusty hot desert in Arizona. It was originally designed as a self contained “world” where scientists stayed for an extended period of time. After going through the tour, there’s no way I’d volunteer to spend my time inside. It must have been very difficult being cooped up in one building….
Kinsale at Night
The quiet, residential part of Kinsale as photographed from the busy touristy part across the harbour! This was a long exposure shot that came out quite nicely but it did show up the dead pixels on my sensor again. Good thing I don’t have time to shoot many of these types of photos nowadays. The…
Traffic must go left
Traffic must go left. This is one of those shots that has sat in TODO folder for ages and ages because I liked it, but it was sorely in need of some work. I probably cheated by making it black and white. Shot down at Cork Docklands about 13 months ago.
Spotty Cactus
Another cactus shot from Arizona. I’m sure this is as boring as the flower pics everyone else posts for people who live in the desert but it’s all new to me! Black vignetting caused by a polarizer!
Spikey Cactus
Cacti are probably an everyday sight for people living in desert regions, but I look out the window of my office and all I see are lush green trees, an overcast sky and the threat of another shower of rain. They’re an exotic plant for me to see out growing in the open. They also…
No. 2400
At Biosphere 2 in Arizona the land around the main building was sold to developers to fund the experiment and for maintenance. Unfortunately all the houses there looked very empty, but maybe that was because it was in January and in the off season.
