De-construction on Grand Parade
The construction site that is the Grand Parade right now but it will soon look like Patrick’s Street with broad pavements, paving and those flag bearing poles that are so prominent on our main thoroughfare.

Sunset at Drake’s Pool
We took Oscar and ourselves for a walk in Drake’s Pool last Sunday. We arranged to meet Donal and Celine there.
While the girls enjoyed a leisurely walk, us guys trailed after them making photos of everything!
Drake’s Pool is just outside Crosshaven, and is named for Sir Francis Drake.

The Commodore Hotel
The Commodore Hotel in Cobh, built in 1854, is an attractive hotel sitting on the main road of the town. Inside, the old world decoration of the lobby, restaurant and bar are inviting.

Smoke Over Cork City
A long trail of smoke was visible over Cork City and surrounding countryside this evening as a fire raged in the scrap metal yard in Dublin Hill.
Jacinta and I had been down in Monkstown at her sister’s house where we enjoyed a great bbq cooked by her husband. We left shortly after 10pm and I noticed a long band of black smoke as we drove through Passage. We turned into the car park for the Line in Rochestown and switched on 96FMto find out what was happening. I never listen to it, honest, but it’s useful for local news!
I sprinted up the path until I got a clear view of the river where I shot the first photo, then on to the metal bridge which crosses the River Lee. The second photo captures the black toxic smoke as it traverses the river. It’s an ugly thing, which was visible from as far away as Carrigaline. Luckily Blarney is in the opposite direction and it’s not visible from there at all, the radio warned that traffic on the north side of the city was bad so we took a detour home through Sunday’s Well.
Damien Mulley photographed the smoke plume from his home in Blackrock. Does anyone else have shots of the fire?

Cobh Boats
I would hazard a guess that these boats are a semi-permanent feature of the Cobh seafront as they’re berthed there each time I have visited!
I love the cobbles of the slipway, and the way the water catches theevening light.
Looks like I’m not the only photoblogger to visit Lanzarote recently!

Fly in the air
I was sitting on the ground photographing a group practising Capoeira in the Peace Park when I spotted a fly hovering right in front of me! Needless to say I tried to shoot him and this is the result!
