Out of the rain

A young lady steps out of the rain on Tuckey Street, Cork last Saturday. What you don’t see in this shot is the large group of photographers behind me, sheltering under the awning outside Tribes. A torrential rain shower had just passed and thankfully was the last we saw. PS. Cork photowalkers! Upload your images to this group on Flickr! Or you can upload them to Pix.ie too. Make sure to tag them “cork”, “corkphotowalk”, “skphoto” and “worldwidephotowalk” for maximum exposure! Aperture ƒ/1.8 Camera Canon EOS 40D Focal length 50mm ISO 100 Shutter speed 1/1000s

Beauty Treatment at The Body Shop

I’m still recovering after the photowalk yesterday! I took a quick look through my photos this evening and decided I’m not over the moon about any of them. A couple are ok, but there’s that little critical part of my mind saying, “crap, crap, crap, blah, ‘s ok, focus is off, boring, what were you thinking?” as I look through them. Anyway, here’s a shot from just before I met everyone else so I guess it can’t be counted really. Shame really as I have another shot of a gentleman getting a bus that I quite like in b/w. Glad I had the wide angle lens on, caught this beauty… Read More

The Worldwide Photowalkers

41 had signed up but some couldn’t make it unfortunately. In the end, a more manageable 23 turned up. The day didn’t go quite as I had planned. We met at the GPO at 2pm, waited a few minutes for stragglers and then just because it started to rain we headed to The English Market. Half an hour or so there and people were making comments about the number of cameras so we walked up Oliver… Read More

Cork City Hall

Cork City Hall, on the banks of the River Lee. Shot on the same night as yesterday’s shot of Gardner House. Also not the first time I’ve posted a photo of City Hall! Only 9 places left for the photowalk. Unfortunately the weather forecast for Saturday is bad so umbrellas and raincoats are a must. I’ll be emailing everyone tomorrow too. Watch your inbox!

Gardner House

As I mentioned already in my Polish Coal post, my dad worked in Suttons Coals for years. Gardner House on the South Mall in Cork used to be called Suttons House but then coal’s fortunes changed. Oil and gas became more popular. Legislation banned any coal other than smokeless coal from urban areas and the coal industry in Ireland went into decline. Anyway, South Mall is the “financial district” in Cork City. There are some beautiful buildings but also some damn ugly ones like Gardner House and the white building across from it. The photowalk on Saturday is almost full! Will is going to be there too and has blogged… Read More
