Debenhams’ confused identity

Debenhams bought Irish department store chain, "Roches Stores", back in 2006, and rebranded their Cork store on Patrick Street shortly afterwards.

Unfortunately nobody has yet replaced the big "Roches Stores" logo at the top of the building. It’s still there, more than a year later! 🙂

Marlboro

Clothes pegs in a textured cloth bag, Marlboro branded plastic bag, 1993 calendar. Shot at my parents-in-law house.

I love the texture of the clothes bag, but that wasn’t what attracted my attention at first. It was the calendar and the Marlboro bag. Since cigarette advertising is now banned it’s unusual to see any sign outside of shops.

Boy in his woolly hat

A small boy waits outside Brown Thomas with his dad while I presume his mother shops inside.

I had plenty of company while I waited!

Cassettes

I wonder if the teenager wearing this hoodie realised the irony of wearing a garment decorated with cassette images, a piece of technology he may not ever have used. The Wikipedia page has a lot more to say on the subject.

This was shot outside Brown Thomas on Patrick Street, Cork while I wheeled Adam around in his buggy.

A girl’s bag

Two girls stop to talk on Patrick’s Street, Cork. That bag looks uncomfortable. What do women put in their bags?

A crow atop a STOP sign on The Grand Parade, Cork.

Shot using a fairly high ISO but bicubic resizing smudges the noise away!

Parked Motorbikes

Two motorbikes parked on the South Mall attracted my attention especially as a strong sun reflected off the clean chrome.

Yes, I know there’s a weird diagonal, yes it is distracting. Yes, it is intentional. Enjoy!

St. Anne’s Church Tower

The Shandon bell tower of St. Anne’s Church is one of the most recognisable sights around Cork. Here it is viewed from the end of Academy Street by Patrick’s Street.
