The Diego Effect at Bantry Market
You can tell a dog has just walked past by the geometry of the smiles. Two heads turning at the same angle, the kid in the patterned fleece still oblivious, a smoothie stall behind them advertising Mango Mix and Berry Bliss like it’s any other Friday. Diego is a small chihuahua and entirely unaware that…
A Quiet Evening in Kinsale
Even on a calm evening when I took this photo, a moored boat moves about if given enough time. This long exposure shows the slight movements that show the water isn’t quite as still. There’s no wind to speak of, the surface looks like polished slate, and yet the boat is nodding away to itself,…
Two’s Company at the beach
Moments before yesterday’s photo of a beach inspector there were two seagulls. I was watching them as I walked down Garrylucas Beach and neither moved so I have a couple of shots of them with dramatic waves thundering behind them. They seemed to be not disturbed by the wall of water beyond. I on the…
The Beach Inspector
Garylucas Beach in Co Cork was hit by 40kph winds this afternoon, with tall waves crashing on the beach. I took a few photos but retreated to the car as it was so cold. Within minutes the wind had ripped right through me. Luckily, gulls are protected somewhat from the cold by their feathers and…
Storm Light Over Owenahincha
Waves broke on the rocks at the edge of Owenahincha Beach a month ago.
Church Bay’s Cosmic Cathedral
The Milky Way as seen from just above Church Bay, at Weaver Point, in Co. Cork. This was last night, a few minutes after the moon had set. Unfortunately, the centre of the galaxy was hidden behind a bank of clouds at the horizon. The forecast said there would be about 30% cloud, but thankfully…
Rocks in the Misty Surf of West Cork
The restless Atlantic waves become ghostly veils of white mist caressing the rocks on Owenahincha Beach, Co Cork. Henry shared a photo of this same rock yesterday. There are lovely swirls of water in his photo.
Driftwood at Owenahincha
Last night Blarney Photography Club travelled to Owenahincha Beach to do some seascapes. We hoped to do some Milky Way photography later in the evening too but cloud cover got thicker and after some socialising in the nearby Celtic Ross Hotel we went home.
Bantry Market’s Most Diverse Stall
Traditional Catholic culture meets modern Irish culture in this stall. A statue of Mary holds a Cork flag, the red and white instantly recognisable by anyone in the County. There’s something for everyone at this stall.
A Bantry Market Character
People of all ages come to the market in Bantry, Co Cork, looking for bargains.
A boat disturbs the water
As you may have seen over the last few days I was taking photos of the boats moored in Kinsale Harbour. Until another boat came along and sped past, disturbing the scene and rocking everything about. Still a lovely evening there, and it was about time to move on anyway. 🙂
Sailing Through Time
Someone walking past a sail in Kinsale made for a nice slow-motion intentional camera movement photo.
