The walk to the lighthouse

·

The end of Sheep’s Head in Co Cork and there’s a small lighthouse there.

It’s a bit of a hike to get out there.

@donncha The walks to the lighthouses on those West Cork fingers out into the Atlantic are other-worldly.

@donncha lovely loop too and a nice place to ‘end on’ if you do the whole peninsula ridge.

@donnchaThat's a lovely walk, last time I did it there was a mini waterfall down those steps. It was cold and slippy, miserable and wonderful.

@donncha My version of that exact same view in June 2012!

@marjon wow, that's amazing. Almost the exact same spot. My photo was taken in 2008! Interesting to see the slight changes in the undergrowth.

@donncha Does the lighthouse operates? They are beautiful but a thing of the past.

@Blanco i had to look it up, but it does! It's entirely automatic like the rest of the lighthouses in Ireland. https://www.irishlights.ie/tourism/our-lighthouses/sheeps-head.aspx
