The Clock Tower, Youghal

The Clock Tower Youghal

The Clock Tower in Youghal is a building you won’t miss if you travel through the town (and despite the great bypass around the area, we got caught in a huge traffic jam!)

According to this page the tower was built in 1777 and had a grisly past,

In 1777, the town’s Clock Gate was built on the site of Trinity Castle, part of the town’s fortifications. The Clock Gate served the town as gaol and public gallows until 1837; prisoners were executed by being hanged from the windows.

PS. Mark your diaries! Cork photowalk on September 26th! There’s a chance to win one of 3 free rooms in the Montenotte Hotel the night before. Blog post to follow tomorrow!
Thanks Damien for helping to organise this great event.

Emma, a small alley somewhere in San Francisco. Shot three years ago while on a photowalk around the city.

Only 9 places left for the photowalk tomorrow. I emailed everyone today. Did you get your email?

Youghal, last April. Coca Cola sells happiness while Tesco tries to sell bargains.

PS. I just posted a gallery of photos from the IBA 09 photowalk last February.

O’Briens Sandwich Bar

O'Briens Sandwich Bar

“O’Briens’ HQ placed in examinership” according to this news report yesterday. This is their fairly recently opened (and more recently closed) “sandwich bar” on Oliver Plunkett Street here in Cork.

Loved their Triple Decker, even if it was a little pricey. Hope the company survives.

Waterford Glass

Waterford Glass

It’s funny the things that catch your eye. On a corner on Patrick’s Street there are these 3 signs: “Seiko”, “Waterford Glass” and “HMV”.

Haircut, pint and hangover pills

Haircut, Pint and hangover pills

So, start off in the College of Hairdressing to tighten up that stylish hair of yours, then off to the “Hi B” for a pint (but turn your mobile phone off!) and then downstairs to Minihan’s Pharmacy for the Alkazelser.

Actually, I don’t like the Hi B. Any pub owner who verbally attacks his customers is a pub I don’t want to frequent. Lovely people in the pharmacy though.
