At first glance I thought this was a Honda 50 but closer inspection of the sticker reveals a “70″. There is more text that could be COB but if the Wikipedia page on the bike is right, it was probaby “CD” on it before it was ripped.

Evening sky over Cork City

Darkness descends on the City of and the of the spill from the windows. In the background is St. Finbarr’s Cathedral and the rest of the environment heading out west.

This image is quite similar to another Grand Parade shot from about a month ago. This one isn’t quite as wide, and was created from one RAW image, shot after the had gone down.

Like yesterday’s shot of the landmarks this was also taken at the top of the park!

  • Make sure you start early. It’s already too late. Better luck next year. This lady started her on November 10th!
  • Examine the shop window in meticulous detail. Bring a magnifying glass.
  • Drag an unfortunate shop assistant out into the cold, wind and wet to show him which item you want to buy, before changing your mind and looking at something else.

Don’t worry about price. The piece you like will always be the most expensive.

The Lord Mayor’s car

Each year the Lord Mayor of is given a top of the range to drive. It’s always the first registered in the new year, hence the XX-C-1 number plate.

Unfortunately for the Lord Mayor, they have to give it back when their annual term is over. Such a is now in the possession of a taxi driver in Blarney so at least it’s still serving the public ..

Grand Parade in the shade

The buildings of the in face away from the setting sung on a cold February afternoon earlier this year. bathes in the frosty sunlight.

This image was of course made of two images, one for the and one for the city. It was handheld and shot using the bracketing function (AEB) on the . The image isn’t perfect. My hand moved between frames but it’s only noticeable at the horizon if you look carefully.

Berwick Fountain

The Berwick was originally built in 1860 but was taken down and removed while went on in the , . Here it is almost ready, although I’d swear they moved it a few feet ..

Cross over the for the last time passing the Berwick (1860), which marked the centre point of a bridge crossing what was then a city canal, now arched over and filled in to form the . The is named after Walter Berwick, one time Chairman of the Quarter Sessions and was designed by Sir John Benson.

Grand Parade mooring post

Believe it or not this may have been a mooring post for boats in the 1700s. At the time the River Lee ran through the and boats were tied to this on the quayside. Now it’s a busy .

It is reputed that this post was a used in the Siege of in 1690. Up until last year it sat on the corner of the pavement but as you can see here the new surface flattened everything out.

It’s been sitting there for as long as I remember, does anyone know anything more about it?
