The Blackrock end of Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork. Michael Jackson, U2 and err, not sure who else have played in this stadium as well as the obvious GAA matches!

Frosty morning in Blarney

Filed in Black and White, Blarney, Canon 40D, Cork, Ireland, Photography, Photos, Sigma 18-200, UrbanTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Another frosty morning in Blarney, County Cork. I’m glad I work from home. The roads are deadly now. Snow fell in Dublin yesterday and the city practically came to a stand still. It hasn’t snowed in Blarney yet but the roads have been bad. We had a Christmas Day adventure when the car didn’t make [...]

The half finished Opera Lane

Filed in Black and White, Canon 40D, Cork, Ireland, Photography, Photos, Sigma 10-20, UrbanTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The new Opera Lane in Cork City separates the gleaming buildings of the new development that was built right in the heart of the city and completed this year. Back in July it was a rugged dirty construction site, and this photo is a fitting end to 2009, and the Noughties. Not much construction work [...]

Elysian Under Cover

Filed in Canon 40D, Cork, Ireland, Photography, Photos, Sigma 10-20, UrbanTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The Elysian, as it was in March 2008, still under construction while the Irish Economy economy fell apart around it.

County Hall Deconstructed

County Hall in Cork, as it was in 2005. Not so long ago it was flooded but it looks vaguely impressive when seen from certain viewpoints since the facelift it received in this photo. Shame it’s built on a flood plain.

Digging up Daunt Square

Filed in Black and White, Canon 18-55, Canon 20D, Cork, Ireland, People, Photography, Photos, Street, UrbanTags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Flash back to 2005 if you will. Ireland is in the grip of the Celtic Tiger boom. Cork is undergoing a transformation. The city’s streets were dug up and remolded with apparently improved drainage (didn’t help recently unfortunately) and the revamping of the city centre was in full swing. Here’s the construction on Daunt Square, [...]

The doctor is out

Filed in Cork, Ireland, People, Photography, Photos, Street, UrbanTags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The doctor is out, and won’t ever be in again. Photo of the half-demolished buildings that became the ugly grey building across from Carroll’s Quay carpark on Leitrim Street, Cork. Shot in April 2005.

Lots of Heineken
