On Patrick’s Day all sorts of head gear and clothes are worn by people all over the world. This girl had a hair band with 2 leprechauns on springy stalks! See the shamrock on her cheek?
Shot on St. Patrick’s Street, Cork last March.
Very nice streetshot. I have a question: How do you go about taking pictures of perfect strangers in the street? I’ve seen countless scenes/situations where I would love to get a shot off, but never been able to just pick up my camera and start snaping photos..

On this day it was easy because of the crowd. It’s much harder to photograph people when there’s nobody around because they’ll notice you but as this was just after the parade there were loads of people milling about. I also used a zoom this time so I was nowhere near her
When I have a wide angle lens I’ll generally shoot from the hip. The Sigma 10-20 is so wide I have to be practically in front of the person before taking their photo, but luckily the noise of the traffic covers the sound of the shutter.

Thank you both for your comments! I was quite busy for about 30 minutes on Patrick’s Day as the crowd dispersed.

It would be a nice touch if you made the leprechauns green.

I sadly cannot stop staring at this photo. The young woman somehow captured me.

Lovely photo - somehow I wish it was in colour and she was wearing green !
One of the things that make this picture compulsive to look at is her expression - somehow incongruous with the crazy stuff in her hair and the shamrock.
