I almost made an ass of myself and forget to post a picture today! You’d be saying to yourselves, “He haw-lways posts a picture every day, where is today’s one?”
Never fear, here it is and I’ve run out of donkey jokes so it’s back to normal. Feel free to contribute in the comments however!
This donkey was snapped down in Kerry last September. We were driving back from Baile Na nGall (Bally David) when I spotted this donkey and a few horses in adjoining fields. I pulled over and ran across the busy bothaireen. Well, a Hi-ace and a tractor passed by..
More of the donkey to come!

Great picture, funny.
Was it a 10-20mm lens you were using.

Oh, and if you’re looking at this in Firefox, try it in Safari or IE. You’ll be amazed at the difference. I need to blog about that soon..

Just had a look in Safari as you recommended and I’m amazed to see how much more vivid it is. I always assumed the two browsers rendered images the same way. Looking forward to your post on it…

This is fantastic, the wide angle works so well here. Incredible composition.

Wow great shot as usual, and like James says I just opened the image up in Safari and firefox holy s**t, like James says I always assumed the colour profile dictated how browsers should display photos but this is just kinda scary. BTW Donncha which would be the way you had envisaged the photo been viewed as Safari or Firefox, as in the contrast and saturation?

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone! It’s really appreciated. I’ll have to go back there this summer and find that donkey again!
I definitely prefer the saturated look that Safari renders, even if it is a little too saturated and a bit dark. Open up the image in GIMP or Photoshop and you’ll see how I intended it to look.
While writing this comment, I took a screen grab of both browsers and copied them back onto my Linux desktop machine. On that machine Firefox displays the image in a very pleasing way. It looks more saturated and brighter than Firefox on the Macbook, but it’s not as bad as Safari.
I opened the same image in GIMP and comparing Linux FF to GIMP they look exactly the same.
Now, here’s the surprising bit. When I opened the screengrabs in GIMP, the Safari screenshot looks oversaturated and slightly dark with a hint of a red colour cast (It’s visible on the Macbook too but not nearly as bad), but the Mac Firefox screengrab that looked too pale on the Macbook looks exactly like Linux Firefox and GIMP. Different LCDs are tuned differently and shows why it’s pointless trying too hard to control how people view your photos online.
I read an article recently on this so I’ll have to dig it up and blog about it..
While you have Safari open, check out http://inphotos.org/lifebelt-in-the-grass/ , http://inphotos.org/feeding-the-horse/ and http://inphotos.org/pathway-to-gallarus/ - that last image looks almost identical in Mac Safari and Linux Firefox.
