Crimson Red Flowers

Glowing red flowers captured my attention at Fitzgerald’s Park a year ago, but I was never happy with my work on this photo until recently. Now I love it. Hope you like it too!

  9. Very nice. any chance we could see a before and after with details of what you did?

  10. I still love this photo. i wanna know how you did it I will torture you about it next week.

  11. John - I haven’t forgotten. Hopefully tomorrow!

I don’t remember exactly what I did, but I know I desaturated most of the colours a bit, then brought the reds and yellows back up. Then I increased contrast and may have over sharpened with USM.

Then I created an overlay layer, and painted in a circular gradient so that the flower on the middle-right was brighter than the rest. Or I may have created a darkened copy of the image, and used a layer mask to hide some of it around that same flower.

Unfortunately I didn’t save a xcf copy of the photo.

Phil - looking forward to meeting up :)
