church steps in castletownbere

Steps to a church in Castletownbere, Co Cork.

I tried finding out more about this church but any attempt to find info on it returns this church I blogged a while back. Anyone know it’s name?

The Church in the photo is the Roman Catholic Church in Castletownbere Co. Cork. The Church is called The Church Of The Sacred Heart and was built in 1822.

Thanks Marian. No matter what I searched for I couldn’t find all that out!

    Donnacha,
This church was actually built in 1911/1912.
It had a spire which was taken down in the 1930’s and it was supposed to have a massive belltower twice as tall as the church itself but they ran out of funds to build it.

    Dear Donncha:

With a wide angle lens such as the one you took this striking facade of the church…Move closer, and try your best to remove distracting items such as the cars. It is ok if you can’t get all the stairs in, the main subject will still remain beautiful. Nobody cares if people drive cars or park them on the street, they just muddy up the overall photo’s effect.

Thanks Jim! Next time I’m in Castletownbere I will move closer. From what I remember of the day we were searching for a place to eat when we passed the church here and I didn’t have time to stop and compose my shot much.

Saying that, I quite like the contrast between metal and stone. Especially the small little Corsa compared to the looming church.
