18 August 2009 - Growing Wild in the Biosphere
Growing Wild in the Biosphere

Inside Biosphere 2, Arizona is a complete ecosystem meant to keep a group of people alive for months on end. That project ended years ago but the building remains and it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Just in case you didn’t see yesterday’s post, 3 hotel rooms going for free on the 25th of September if you’re going to the photowalk the following day! Just leave a comment if you can definitely go and want to be in with a chance to win.

I thought there might be a rush on this but, boy is it proving hard to give away such a good prize! I’ll just have to claim one of the rooms for myself! :)

A Yellow Rose

A yellow rose in my father-in-law’s garden. Even in his mid eighties he’s very active and loves tending his garden.

Autumn Trees

Beautiful golden leaves adorn the trees in Burnham Beeches near London. Last year I posted a photo of the same trees in Burnham Beeches and this version has been sitting in my TODO folder ever since, waiting for me to work on it.

Sheep's Head Cliffs

The cliffs of Sheep’s Head in West Cork are forever battered by the Atlantic.

28 December 2008 - Fuchsia

Fuchsia flowers are really difficult to photograph. You need a macro lens because the flower is so small and a regular lens has trouble focusing so close. The flowers hang down and catch the wind so easily it’s quite a challenge to get a steady shot. Here’s one I shot earlier in Fountainstown, Co Cork a few months back.

22 December 2008 - Flower Burst

Some times you just have to post a cliche like a pretty flower, especially in the dead of winter.

I’m giving away a free print to two visitors to my blog. Leave a comment on my Carol Singers post to be in with a chance to win!

09 December 2008 - Windswept Daisies

Windswept Daisies

Daisies cling to the sparse earth at the water’s edge in Fountainstown, Co Cork. This was taken just a few metres from my previous Fountainstown picture and was mocking me for over 2 years, sitting in my “Work in Progress” folder, defying my attempts to capture the feeling of that cold October day in 2006.

The tide is out at Fountainstown

The tide was out on this evening when we visited Fountainstown in Co Cork in 2006. This photo of a boat was taken across those mud flats on a later visit so there’s plenty of opportunity for photographers there.

04 December 2008 - Sunset Glow at Doneraile Park
Sunset Glow at Doneraile Park

The setting sun cast a beautiful glow on the trees near Doneraile House in Doneraile Park in November 2006. That was a cold day, wind blew through us despite the warm coats we wore. My wife was pregnant at the time and we were in the park with her sister Gerry so it’s a memorable day for all of us.

Links: Splish splash redux – Ponder has some tips on shooting high speed photos of water and milk drops. Venividi got a few dramatic shots of the fire on North Main Street, Cork last Friday night. I got a few shots on Saturday morning but all that was left of the smoke was a smell in the air.

03 December 2008 - Reflections on Kinsale

Reflections on Kinsale

If you walk along the quay in Kinsale, Co Cork and glance across the harbour you’ll see the houses above. I’ve always wondered who lives over there and what do they think of the busy tourist town across the water.
