Five to Twelve

It’s almost noon and I’m at the top of Patrick’s Hill taking photos of the Northside of Cork City. Pictured is St. Anne’s in the foreground, the County Hall in the background and lots in between! Didn’t have time to work on any shots from yesterday. Too much to do. Aperture ƒ/6.3 Camera Canon EOS 40D Focal length 200mm ISO 100 Shutter speed 1/400s

Soiree

–noun an evening party or social gathering, esp. one held for a particular purpose: a musical soiree. (source) The first time I heard anyone use the word “soiree” was when my wife’s friend spoke about organising a party at her home. My wife uses it too. Must be posh, I married well! Today I decided to see the world in black and white after reading an article in Photography Monthly about Chris Friel, a colour blind photographer in the UK, who shoots that way. I set my shooting mode to Monochrome, quality to Jpeg and added a red filter (although I’m not certain it had much effect from testing..) and… Read More

On the Boardwalk

Phew! What a day! Today we had a great photowalk in Cork. I hesitate to say this, but I think it was probably the most enjoyable photowalk I’ve ever been on. We started out in the Montenotte Hotel, with tea and scones and a chat. After refreshments we headed up on the roof for a stunning view of Cork City and the Blackrock side of the suburbs. I’ve never seen into Pairc Ui Chaoimh from above like that before! Soon after we headed down to Dillon’s Cross, and on down Summerhill. Halfway down we took a detour here where we got splendid views of the train station and Julia, the… Read More

Anything but Guinness

So, today is Arthur’s Day, a celebration of 250 years of Guinness. Well, sorry, but I don’t like Guinness and this is obviously a cheap marketing ploy by a large multi-national to drive sales of a declining beverage. Seems to have worked. Me? I may just open that bottle of Leffe. Yum. Aperture ƒ/3.5 Camera Canon EOS 40D Focal length 50mm ISO 100 Shutter speed 1/125s

Empty Morning

The view from my office on a damp misty and foggy morning 10 days ago. I live on the side of a depression between two slight hills and fog builds up inside there occasionally. Photowalk on Saturday! See the link above and please comment if you’re coming! We need numbers for the complementary lunch at the end 🙂 Aperture ƒ/6.3 Camera Canon EOS 40D Focal length 48mm ISO 100 Shutter speed 1/160s

The evolution of back pain

A small poster advertises a survey on back pain. It’s a 3 year programme and since this was taken in 2007 it’s nearing completion now! Taken somewhere in San Francisco. Aperture ƒ/4 Camera Canon EOS 20D Focal length 10mm ISO 100 Shutter speed 1/160s

Half Moon Glass

The development of Half Moon Street and the adjoining Quay are coming along nicely, even with the old house in the middle of it that must have been kept for historical reasons. The other side of the building was pictured previously on Reflection on Half Moon Street. Photowalk is next Saturday! Make sure you sign up if you’re coming!
