The National Monument, Grand Parade Cork was erected in 1906 to commemorate those who died in uprisings against the British in 1867 and 1798.
It’s one of the few parts of the Grand Parade that hasn’t changed much despite all the redevelopment of the city.
Nice dark blacks, good scene. Hate the angle. Really really don’t like the angle. (Gosh it’s uncomfortable being so harsh in a comment.)

Thanks guys!
Detour - The angle is on purpose because every single shot of this monument is the same old boring thing. I wanted to jazz it up a little ![]()
That’s not harsh at all! I’ve got a lot worse (and deservedly so, sometimes!)

If you look at the figures facing east towards the mall you’ll notice that some are missing limbs and guns, etc. These were damaged in 2000 by a contractor on the main drainage project. They were saved but i recently noticed that after 8 years they have still not been put back up! strange…or incompetent, depending on your point of view

Phil. I’m so hurt by your comment. Did you strain your neck trying to look at this photo?
Actually, I prefer constructive criticism to the usual “great shot”, but it can be very hard to articulate a comment about a photo!
Richard - I’m sure I heard that elsewhere too. Heading into town tonight for a short while so I might get a look at the broken statues. Shame they’re not fixed, but not surprising.

Personally I think that the angle is good. The crop however is a bit tight especially on the lower right side. I like the noise. Very creative.
