Our pet Shih Tzu, Oscar, has been suffering under the unusual August weather. It’s actually quite warm, and his long coat is more useful for colder weather. So this morning we had him groomed and doesn’t he look cute?
She does look very cute, but ever so slightly, um, angry. It always takes me a while to adjust to a new haircut. She’ll be smiling by tomorrow.

Angry? I think you’re right, but his tail was wagging so hard he was sweeping the grass off the patch ![]()

Hey Donncha
I’ve beem a lurker on your blog for a long time. I have a camera question - Have you ever cleaned your sensor ? I have a 30D andit has recently developed a fair few smudges. There is a lot of conflicting advice online, but I have ordered the Copper Hill kit http://www.copperhillimages.com/index.php?pr=tutorials but I am hesitant about trying it. Any thoughts or advice ? Feel free to email me.

John - thanks for commenting! I’ve cleaned the sensor on my 20D many times. I use a simple lens brush with a bulb to blow air.
Although my sensor has 3 stuck pixels I don’t think it has anything to do with the cleaning. The actual sensor is protected by a filter. that’s what the brush cleans. It’s scary doing it, but it’s safe enough. Just make sure you have a full battery. You don’t want the mirror falling back onto your brush when you’re cleaning!

I have done the blower and it got a lot of dust off, but there are still very apparent smudges. The copper hill method involves actually touching the sensor, and there are many online posts pro and con. I’m curious as to what you thought of the method?
Thanks again!

My friend has an Old English Sheepdog that he needs to do the same with… Nice picture though….
Just to help out on the Sensor cleaning question, I have used the Lens cleaning brush a few times and it does the job quite well i find… But what you need for more difficult smudges are Sensor Swabs, i have used this method more and find it incredibly effective. VisibleDust or PhotoSol have been the one’s i’ve used in the past, they are expensive enough though. Again you will need to be careful as always and you need to use a special liquid when using the swabs but it is very effective.
If you can at all help it, try and avoid using Air bulbs in the camera chamber as that only blows the dust somewhere else.
I got myself a 5D, you need to clean the sensor on these guys. You just have to bite the bullet and do it, it’s something that you just have to do with digital camera’s.

“Our pet Shih Tzu, Oscar, has been suffering under the unusual August weather” - Dogs with large hairs suffer during hot seasons. Dog Clipping(grooming) is a must to make him comfortable. What a cute Dog? The clipping(grooming) has made him very cute!
