Just a beautiful evening in San Diego

I arrived in San Diego a few hours ago and the first thing I noticed when I got into my hotel room was the amazing view of the Pacific Ocean. This doesn’t do it justice as the foreground is a little too dark but I wanted to get it uploaded with minimum fuss so here ya go!

Saint Finbarre’s Sunset

St Finbarre’s Cathedral silhouetted against the sunset in Cork yesterday. It was freezing cold but the skies were mostly clear and snow hasn’t fallen in the City or here in Blarney either yet.

The country is going through a recession but you wouldn’t know it. After driving around Parnell Place twice I parked in Merchant’s Quay but had to park on the roof because the place was full. Many of the shops were very busy, and the streets were crowded with shoppers.

So cold though.

PS. the version of gthumb in Ubuntu 10.10 sucks. Missing now is the “Duplicate” menu item, and I can’t drag photos from one folder to another. Grrr. It is faster however.

Night Over Quebec

Night falls over Quebec as we finish our tour and photowalk around the city. ISO 1600 came in very useful as the sky got darker! Pictured here are a few of the buildings just outside the old city walls. I think the Hilton is the building on the right.

Fountainstown Sunset

The beach at Fountainstown in County Cork faces east but in the twilight there’s still a glow in that direction. This was shot with my 50mm lens, really close to the surface of the water there while gentle waves lapped the shoreline.

Unfortunately as a result I had set the focus point so the water would be in focus and today forgot to change it, thus ruining a nice photograph at a family occasion. Then the focus somehow got kicked into manual on my 18-200 lens and ruined another few photos. Oh well.

Love this shot though!

Sunset Glow at Doneraile Park

The setting sun cast a beautiful glow on the trees near Doneraile House in Doneraile Park in November 2006. That was a cold day, wind blew through us despite the warm coats we wore. My wife was pregnant at the time and we were in the park with her sister Gerry so it’s a memorable day for all of us.

Links: Splish splash redux – Ponder has some tips on shooting high speed photos of water and milk drops. Venividi got a few dramatic shots of the fire on North Main Street, Cork last Friday night. I got a few shots on Saturday morning but all that was left of the smoke was a smell in the air.

Breckenridge Sunset

The sun sets early in Breckenridge Colorado, well slightly earlier than in Ireland anyway. Myself and Anthony were working on one part of our secret project, and Mike Adams was working on the other bit, when Michael Koenig jumped up and went outside on to the balcony. I looked up and saw gorgeous red clouds and followed him with my camera. This is the result.

Tall evergreen trees outside the house, and snow capped mountains on the horizon. The sun set behind them in a blazing ball of glorious colour. Beautiful.
