21 April 2008 - Empty road on Slea Head
An empty road curves around Slea Head, Co. Kerry on a beautiful September day in 2006.
12 April 2008 - Sheep in a Kerry fieldWooah, digging into the archives here. This was shot in September 2006 while on holiday in Dingle. It’s a field on Slea Head at the tip of the Dingle Peninsula.
It’s hard to see in the web version but I love the brooding clouds in the large image!
7 February 2008 - Lonesome DonkeyA donkey, alone in his field. There’s a horse in the background but he’s being fed. The donkey doesn’t get anything. Poor thing.
Spotted on the road around Slea Head at the end of the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry.
That’s the last of the donkey pictures. For now.
6 February 2008 - The sandy beach at CouminoleI photographed the beach at Couminole on the Dingle Peninsula back in 2006 when there was a beach there. There was no sand to be seen during repeated visits there in September 2007.
I had actually quite forgotten I had taken this so it was nice to see the lovely sandy beach!
Trivia – a well known member of Mallow Camera Club who shall remain nameless was caught by the tide and had to remain sitting on the rocks for several hours in wet, foggy and rough conditions until the tide went out again.
Today is dull, there’s a glimpse of blue out, it’s cold, there’s a chilly wind blowing.
Blue sky and fluffy clouds in Kerry while on holiday. Great memories.
31 October 2007 - Waves at CouminoleThe waves crash on to the beach at Couminole on Slea Head, Co. Kerry.
Standing where I was when I took this image was scary. Huge waves lifting up water to head height before crashing down mere feet in front of me.
Is that Skellig Michael in the background?
29 October 2007 - Shadows on Slea HeadShadows from the broken clouds above play over the landscape on Slea Head in Co. Kerry. Every moment was a different photo until the rain eventually caught up with us!
20 October 2007 - Rain blows over Slea HeadRain descended on us moments after I took this shot as it sped across the bay and over Slea Head from the south!
This was taken above Couminole Beach.
17 October 2007 - The waves at CouminoleWaves about to crash down on the nearby rocks at Couminole Beach on Slea Head, Co. Kerry.
Originally this was in colour but it lacked punch. Converting it to black and white and slightly overexposing the blue channel created this dramatic scene.
3 October 2007 - Couminole ViewLooking out to sea from the steep walkway down to Couminole Strand on Slea Head, the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry.
The film Ryan’s Daughter was filmed in this area and the beach behind me was featured in the gun running scene! Check it out on Youtube. About 2 minutes into the second clip you can see some of the rocks pictured above. The scenes where the IRA and locals run across rocks with waves crashing on rocks in the background was definitely not filmed on the same beach however. Even at low tide the beach can be crossed in about 4 steps.
