27 October 2006 - Go faster! Go faster!
A young girl in a buggy leans forward as her mother pushes her along St. Patrick’s Street, Cork. Looks like her mother was busy shopping in Penney’s and elsewhere so I’m sure she’ll look forward to getting home!
I like this: This Flight Tonight, and make sure you download the linked video tutorial. The statement that an “adjustment layer is a normal layer with a layer map on top” struck a chord with me. The GIMP doesn’t support adjustment layers and the technique he used, by rubbing out some of the map of an upper layer is one I’ve used in the GIMP previously.
31 August 2006 - This city’s a drag
Two women, dragged along by a young girl so they won’t stop at the market on Cornmarket Street, Cork. I can just imagine the conversion:
“But I want to go home noooowwwww.”
“No, hold on, we went to all your shops, I want to look at more boots.”
“Ummm, that stall over there has delicious breads.”
“I’m tired!”
Maybe.
I’m really happy with the way this image turned out because we were right next to them and I wasn’t sure if I would get them all in. In the end I had to crop to get the composition I wanted. I duplicated the layer and darken the top one before removing the non-cloud portions of it. I added a slight lomo effect too which did wonderful things to the sky too!
2 July 2006 - Moynihan’s Poultry
A long exposure shot in the English Market in the vicinity of one of the many chicken meat shops.
The camera was set to f/8.0 and placed on top of a wall. In this semi-dark passage the exposure was 1/4 second blurring the passing people nicely but capturing the relatively motionless shop keepers.
11 May 2006 - Tom Murphy Men’s Wear
We returned my wedding suit yesterday to Tom Murphy Men’s Wear and Dress Hire Service.
Irish people love to complain about the shoddy service they receive when shopping but rarely do they shout about a great shopping experience when helpful and enthusiastic staff make the process so much easier.
Selecting the right wedding suit was probably the most important clothing choice I made in my life but Dermot, Tom and Owen were there to help.
