19 September 2008 - Warning sign in the wilderness
Warning sign in the wilderness

Another shot of the Electric Wires warning sign I posted yesterday. This one gives you a flavour of the landscape in the area, and the desolate, remote location of the sign.

If you’ve ever taken the Naomh Ciaran II to Cape Clear Island this sign will be familiar to you.

PS. The cheezburger are the latest blog to use the Thieving Duck. Hope they link back to the original post.
PPS. They did, saw a trickle of hits from there.

14 September 2008 - Burned out car
Burned out car

A burned out car lies upside down next to the river in Inniscarra, Co Cork. I wonder if it’s still there?

Car bits in the water

Bits of a car that lay abandoned and burned out in Inniscarra next to the river.

Rough Weather ahead at Allihies

Allihies in West Cork is a beautiful beach surrounded by beautiful scenery but on this day in February clouds hung over our heads, the sun broke through momentarily but the seas still lashed at the coast and I almost got drenched while shooting on the pier there.

Love this shot though, well worth braving the fierce cold wind!

6 February 2008 - The sandy beach at Couminole

I photographed the beach at Couminole on the Dingle Peninsula back in 2006 when there was a beach there. There was no sand to be seen during repeated visits there in September 2007.

I had actually quite forgotten I had taken this so it was nice to see the lovely sandy beach!

Trivia – a well known member of Mallow Camera Club who shall remain nameless was caught by the tide and had to remain sitting on the rocks for several hours in wet, foggy and rough conditions until the tide went out again.

19 October 2007 - Yellow Walking Man

An arrow points the way for walkers near Wine Strand on the Dingle Peninsula. Across the water is Ballydavid or Baile na nGall.

Beautiful clear skies, lovely calm water. Ideal weather.

17 October 2007 - The waves at Couminole

Waves about to crash down on the nearby rocks at Couminole Beach on Slea Head, Co. Kerry.

Originally this was in colour but it lacked punch. Converting it to black and white and slightly overexposing the blue channel created this dramatic scene.

3 October 2007 - Couminole View

Looking out to sea from the steep walkway down to Couminole Strand on Slea Head, the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry.

The film Ryan’s Daughter was filmed in this area and the beach behind me was featured in the gun running scene! Check it out on Youtube. About 2 minutes into the second clip you can see some of the rocks pictured above. The scenes where the IRA and locals run across rocks with waves crashing on rocks in the background was definitely not filmed on the same beach however. Even at low tide the beach can be crossed in about 4 steps.

10 January 2007 - Footprints in the sand

Footprints on a sandy beach on the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry.

The blue sky, fluffy clouds, golden sand and warm breeze are just the tonic for a relaxing break away from it all.
