Cork Docklands Grain Silo

Cork Docklands Grain Silo

John Finn’s superb photo of this grain silo that he posted today on Facebook (unfortunately you’ll need to be friends with him to see it) prompted me to dig up this photo of the same building from my output queue.

It was shot in 2014 when we went exploring the docklands one afternoon and I photographed the demolition of the Miag Grain Silo. I love that I caught a flock of birds swooping around the building!

Los Jameos del Agua

Los Jameos del Agua

This striking blue pool is part of Los Jameos del Agua built into the ground of Lanzarote using the same lava tunnel La Cueva de los Verdes that was formed by the eruption of La Corona Vulcano. Of course, César Manrique was responsible for this beautiful design.

This pool is called, “Jameo Grande”. There’s also an internal pool inside the tunnel that’s home “to over a dozen endemic species of great scientific interest” according to this site.

Star Trails in Utah

Star trails around the North Star, Polaris in Utah, United States.

This is a long exposure shot of 930 seconds shot at f/8. The night was fairly clear but cloud crept in during the long exposure. It was a glorious night. We were up in the mountains and away from most light pollution apart from the huge hotel 200m away to the right but you have to have some comfort, right?

Next time I’m going to try stacking shorter exposures using StarStaX and I have to avoid “bright” foreground objects. This photo was pushed too much and shows too much noise. 🙁

Deep Water Berth at Ringaskiddy

Deep Water Berth at Ringaskiddy

The deep water berth at Ringaskiddy in Cork Harbour yesterday. Driving rain, wind blowing it almost horizontal. The first day of the year was wet. I waited until it quietened down a bit before venturing outside with my camera! 🙂

Oscar in the Buggy

Oscar in the Buggy

As 2014 draws to a close in a matter of hours I had to post this photo of Oscar that represented his life in the last two years until his death just over a month ago. He was never a very active dog but he found it difficult to keep going when we were out so more often than not we also took a buggy with us. We walked the islands of Cape Clear and Sherkin with him, we walked around County Cork and Kilkenny and Waterford. We took holidays in pet friendly accommodation so he could be with us. He was a rescue dog who became a king.

The end of a year is the closing of a chapter in our lives, with new delights and adventures in the next year. Happy new year!
