30 July 2008 - Looking for a parking space
You’re in town and desperately looking for a parking place. Where do you go? All the on-street parking has either been removed because of road works or taken by everyone who went shopping at 9am. Just look up. There’s a multi storey carpark somewhere near you. Probably.
Front of the car park on The Grand Parade. Shot after I said goodbye to Phil and the others a few weeks ago.
6 February 2007 - San Francisco DPT on the jobThe San Francisco Department of Parking and Traffic (DPT) have painted the kerb of the sidewalk in the city to designate different parking areas in the city.
Wandering around the city I was struck by the startling paint job on the ground, especially the “warning” colours used. It didn’t stop people double parking though, but I didn’t spot any traffic cops around either!
3 December 2006 - Parking for the GuinnessLook up for unusual perspectives on ordinary scenes. I was quite happy with this image of a lamppost in Parnell Place, Cork when I took it. The signs are clearly visible and the upside-down Guinness logo catches the eye!
You have to wonder, what’s more important, Guinness or parking?
23 November 2006 - The streets of San FranciscoSan Francisco is rightly famous for it’s hills and steep slopes. The city streets go up and down and, and no matter what the gradient, cars will always be parked at the side of the street. Local bylaws state that a parked car on a slope must have the front wheels pointed towards the sidewalk so the car won’t roll if the handbrake fails. As you can see, not everyone obeys that particular piece of legislation!
I can’t remember what building this was, but I was struck by the sheer lines of it, and the grey gloomy and despondent colour. There are no entrances visible and the building seems to grow out of the hillside as if mocking the gradient of the land by standing tall and straight.
PS. Happy Thanksgiving! It’s a normal working day around the rest of the world but the Internet is much quieter now that US visitors are off work, relaxing and enjoying the day!
29 October 2006 - Matt let us drive his car for the dayWhen we parked in the garage we had to cover the car with this sheet. I dunno what the big deal is, it’s only a Ferrari after all!
But seriously folks, I’m joking, Matt doesn’t drive a Ferrari, yet! WordPress.com is being run like a proper business by Matt and everyone else who are scrupulous about money and doing things sensibly. We’re not going to crash and burn any time soon!
Toni lent us his car on the final Sunday in San Francisco. Andy drove while Podz and I alternated between riding shotgun and sitting in the back seat. Cameras were pointed out the window at every opportunity of course. We went downtown and found parking in a garage and this car was parked next to us in a reserved spot.
Tom asks, Would You Rather Have Sex With Marilyn Monroe or Take Photographs of Her?. “I’d rather …” You’ll have to read the post to find out!

4 May 2006 - Your vehicle has been clampedThis is the sign that drivers hate to see. Clampers are a relatively new phenomenon in Ireland but are reviled even more than traffic wardens now.
